I think they mean one studies US history only to find that half of the exam is related to contemporary issues related to US and are opinion based questions. One can prepare Current Affairs to pass US history according to this paper.

In my opinion, there is inconsistency with the paper pattern and this year it was more in favor of contemporary topics. Elections, Muslims' perceptions of US etc.
