Dear Aspirants,
This thread has been designed to assist the candidates aspiring for Balochistan Provincial Civil Services Examination (BPSC). Your feedback will be appreciated.
What is PCS?
‘PCS’ stands for ‘Provincial Civil Services’ and remember not to intermingle it with other exams conducted by Balochistan public service commission. For instance, BPSC conducts examinations for the vacant posts such as Assistant Directors (B-17) in various departments; Secondary School Teachers in education departments; Sub-Divisional Officers (B-17) in PHE, B&R etc.
PCS is conducted by BPSC after having received requisition from the Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD) for filling the vacant posts of Assistant Commissioners (B-17) & Section Officers (B-17). PCS is not conducted on regular basis just like CSS.
a) What is CCE?
CCE stands for ‘Combined Competitive Examination’. When BPSC conducts a single exam for both of the above mentioned categories (A.C & S.O) it is known as Combined Competitive Examination. If Exam is being conducted only for the Section officers or Assistant commissioners, thereby it would be known as ‘Competitive Examination’ for the posts of Assistant Commissioners (B-17) or Section Officers (B-17).
b) What is PSC?
PSC stands for ‘Public Service Commission’. It is an autonomous organization established under a constitutional act. This organization has been entrusted with authority to conduct examinations for filling the vacant posts to the provincial Bureaucracy and other departments.
c) What is BCS?
BCS stands for ‘Balochistan Civil Services’. In fact, this is the ‘Executive branch’ of provincial civil services, i.e. the Assistant Commissioners group. Officers belonging to this group are posted in the districts as Assistant Commissioners; Deputy Commissioners etc. these officers may also be posted at Balochistan Civil Secretariat according to the quota reserved for them.
d) What is BSS?
BSS stands for ‘Balochistan Secretariat Services’, I.e. the ‘Section Officers group’ in civil secretariat. It is pertinent to mention that Section Officers can’t be posted in districts i.e. against the postings of Assistant Commissioners, however, Assistant Commissioners can be posted in Civil Secretariat against a reserved quota and it gives the executive group an upper hand in postings, perks and privileges.
i) A student can appear thrice for the above stated examination(s), meaning thereby that a student can avail three chances.
ii) The eligibility criterion is Bachelor’s degree with second division.
iii) The written examination shall include four compulsory subjects and optional subjects. A candidate shall take all four compulsory subjects and three (03) of the optional subjects out of five groups, with certain restrictions.
