As I've read long ago in the book "India Wins Freedom" in English by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and "ہماری آزادی" an Urdu translated version of the same, he mentioned that Qaid-e-Azam title was given by Gandhi to Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
