A heart touching story about the loyalty of Bairam Khan in Mughal Empire

Bairam Khan was the most trusted servant of Shahi Mughals. His ancestors used to be loyal servants of emperor Zahir-u-din Babur. Before the death of his father Saif Ali, he took owe by his father that he would remain loyal to Empire in all weathers and he, therefore, took his father's words on heart and acted upon it till his death in 1561. Bairam Khan served Humayun, he was his most trusted commondar and used to accompany him all the time. Humayun considered him like his family member. Whether be it harem activities or battlefield, Bairam, the most attractive and good looking man played his cordial role. Most of the time in Harem, he used to have argumentive war with Begum Hamida Banu, the mother of Akbar and wife of Humayun. She did not like him because she was envious of her owing to closeness to Sultan and she wanted to enthrone his own brother after Humayun. However, Bairam Khan always treated her with smile and a war of discussion carried out despite that they belong to same ethnicity. However, when Sultan Humayun was defeated in the battle of Chausa in 1540, Bairam Khan was shattered because Humayun's own brothers did not support him and above all, all of them revolted against him and which proved to be the strength of Sher Shah Suri. Bairam was wandering in jungles due to being away from his master and it was his love that brought him close to his beloved Sultan in 1542. When he met his Sultan he cried a lot and he took oath that he would shatter into ashes the enemy of his master. However, he suggested him with respectfully that Humayum must seek the help of Shah of Persia. Who was also looking to recapture Kandhar, when Humayun was guested at the palace of Shah of Persia. He was honored and lived there for a few days. One day, Pasha came to him while discussing gave him a proposal that if he would help him in occuring Kandhar, he would give him 42000 solders for helping him in recapturing the Punjab and Delhi. Humayun accepted the proposal and the battle was fought in which not only Humayun reconsolidated the Punjab, but Delhi and Agra as well, but unfortunately he could not taste the fruits of success longer and tumbled out of his own library from the staircase and fractured his head that ultimately led him to kick the bucket.

During the death of Humayun, Bairam Khan was appointed at the Punjab with the King Akbar as his guide, he gave this sad news to Akbar and cried with him. In the meanwhile, a brave commander of Hemu, took the advantage of the death of Akbar and occupied Agra and Delhi. The governor of Delhi, Mr Beg, fled away and reached Sirhind. It added fuel to the fire in the reign of Mughals, every body was scared of the circumstamces and they were afraid of that their King is no more so how could they see the sustainable empire in the intervention of Hindus and Afghanis. However, Bairam executed the Governor of Agra that how dared he fled away, in addition to that, he prepared for action and with the consent of Akbar, fought the second battle of Panipat. A fierce battle was fought between Hemu and Bairam Khan. Hemu had proud of his power and military tactics, he divided his army into three phases, the first one from the left, the second from the right and he himself fought from the center. Initially, after the departure of his cavalry by Bairam Khan, he won by the left and right wings. Suddenly, an arrow came and struck into his left eye which made him blind by one eye and he lost the consciousness. His army gone confused and fled away because they thought that Hemu died of attack. However, he was brought to Akbar but he had been mad since he lost his consciosnness. Therefore, Akbar left him but according to S.M. Sharma, Bairam Khan executed him in his own sword. Because Bairam Khan was very angry and arrogant type of person to his enemies.

Bairam Khan made possible in recapturing the lost glory of Mughal empire. He served the empire through thick and thin. But due to his personality traits, he made some enemies within the harem and Mansabdars. Begum Hamida Banu became her enemy and tried all her best to poison the ear of Akbar against him.

One day in the court, Akbar told Bairam Khan "Mama you have become old and hardy fight so why don't you rest now?". Bairam Khan said, " I am though seem to be old man but nobody can even touch me without your appearance". Akbar, who had intention to kill Bairam Khan, was surprised and feeling guilty. However, he retired him for going to pilgrimage of Makkah, on the way, Bairam was suddenly attacked, but he killed most of the men with bare hands. However, behind the trees, the commander of Akbar was looking at him and when he came closer, saw Bairam who was all wounded but still alive with sword in his hand. He, to see the Akbar's commander, hugged him and said that he knew that without the presence of Akbar no body even can touch him or kill him, while he saying this and suddenly the commander hit sword harder into his back from behind. He fell down on his legs and looked at him. The commondar told him that it was the Royal order to kill him. Bairam Khan with sword into his back, the drops of blood were falling down, he was about dying but said to him that take care of my Master and the shutter of his eyes went close and he finally died like immortal man.

The commander came to the court of Akbar with Bloodshed sword and gave it into the hands of Akbar. He told him that he had killed Bairam Khan and the red blood of his body was in the sword. Further he told him that Akbar wished him to take care of Akbar. Thus Akbar was astonished, his eyes stood static, he could not speak, neither moved and cried with tears silently.
