Default How CPEC Can Change Pakistani Society?

Most of the discussions about CPEC revolve around its economic benefits. However, it is also expected to transform our society.

How CPEC Can Change Pakistani Society?

China Pakistan Economic Corridor will bring a lot of economic opportunities for Pakistanis. It will create many job opportunities and also help Pakistan boost its economy. Most of the talks about CPEC revolve only around the economic benefits to Pakistani, but what social impact it brings in Pakistani society? Keeping into view the current flow of Chinese into Pakistan it seems that it many changes will come.

Looking from a social perspective, there are many questions that have become important. What changes will it bring to the traditional society of Pakistan? How will it impact our culture as a whole? How will it impact a country like Pakistan where the majority of the population is Muslim?

Both China and Pakistan are situated in Asia, but the cultures of both countries are different from each other. Here is which social changes we can expect in Pakistan.

Technological Advancement

China is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world. Many Chinese companies are known for their high-quality products: Xiaomi and Huawei are examples. It seems that many companies will make their way into Pakistan. Pakistanis can take the advantage of Chinese advancement in technology. Interpersonal communication of the Chinese with the Pakistanis can transfer this change deeper in society.

Working Conditions

Many Chinese companies are working in Pakistan. Many of these are working on the Gwadar port. There are many ways in which China is better than Pakistan including the work efficiency and productivity of their workforce. It is hoped that their involvement in different sectors will bring corporate changes in Pakistan. Pakistanis may adopt the way of Chinese to improve their own productivity.

Language

Communication is very important for the people to interact with each other. Language is the basic instrument of communication. A convergence of the cultures of Pakistan and China and their languages may give something to each other language. Recently, many Chinese language learning institutes have opened in many cities of Pakistan. It is hoped that a large number of people will learn Chinese language and many Chinese will learn Urdu.

Food

Food is an important part of a culture. Many foods start representing a particular area. It is expected that both countries will share a taste of foods with each other. Chinese food and many dishes will become popular in Pakistan as well.

Open-Mindedness

Nationalism can be seen in many parts of Pakistan. Many provinces divide themselves on the basis of their distinctive culture. This mindset is hindering our progress. Although, Pakistanis have a good history of inter-region harmony as compared to its neighbors, Chinese involvement in Pakistan will bring up a new type of cooperation. It will make people “open-minded” about the others. Furthermore, interacting with a major world power and different peoples will make them feel more international.

Internationalism

Currently, Chinese are coming to Pakistan. But, it is a hope that people of other countries will start moving into Pakistan to find better opportunities. Interacting with a major world power and different peoples will make the Pakistani people feel more international. It is developing a sense of internationalism among them.

Pakistanis should be ready to embrace these changes after China Pakistan Economic Corridor becomes a reality. It is time to “get international”.
