Post General Ability Past Paper Questions

It takes 3 liters of paint to cover an area of 24 square meters. What percentage increase in the quantity of paint would be required to cover an area of 50.4 square meters?

Solution:

In order to find the percentage increase, firstly find the total amount of paint that will be used to cover an area of 50.4 square meters

3 liter : x liter :: 24 m2 : 50.4 m2

3 / x = 24 m2 / 50.4 m2

3 * 50.4 m2 = x * 24 m2

151.2 / 24 = x

6.3 = x

Hence, 6.3 liters of paint are required. Now, we need to find what percentage increase in 3 is 6.3?

X % * 3 = 6.3 - 3

X / 100 * 3 = 3.3

3x = 330

X = 330 / 3

X = 110

So, the percentage increase is 110 %
