Some very good points have been raised here . I am just thinking that what liberals will say about single national curriculum . As per my knowledge, some of them have gone insane about whole process , and they are right in some expects by pointing out some deficiencies in our educational system. As per Pervez Hoodbhoy, our teachers are not well trained in many backward areas of Pakistan, and for them to acquire skills upto that level of implementing single national curriculum, will be a huge task. For example, how any one can teach science subjects in backward areas , where we already know that teachers have not got ability to teach well.
Another point that is being made is this that by implementing SNC, what we get as a result is lower number of scientific subjects. Our aim should be to equip students with knowledge of modern sciences from lower levels, so that they become well versed with basic concepts at the beginning.
Another problem is with system of ratification; SNC will not be able to tackle this issue. Main aim should be to get students acquire knowledge in analytical ways rather than just ratifying some material to pass exams.
I think Liberals are worried because at the end students who were getting educated by curriculum of O,A levels, now they will have to study syllabus provided by SNC, and at the end they will end up getting lower standards of education.
We can't really mainstream all students in one curriculum, it needs lots of effort and it can end up in a disaster because we have not made any base before implementing these measures.
Another problem with our outdated syllabus is regarding the famous personalities and our Heroes that we make students to follow from the very beginning. Their heroes are not scientists ,philosophers, mathematicians but war generals etc. This thing has got a very negative impact on students from very young age, though we don't realize these things.
At other side , it is good for students of backward areas, only if they are able to get higher standards of education at the end.
