Exclamation Individual acts, community's responsibility...

There is no denying the fact that recent days have observed several highly obnoxious and condemnable acts by the lawyers, be it manhandling a unifromed police officer or thrashing press presonnel. These are no doubt individual lawyers' acts and it's them who should be taken to task and should be duly penalized. But here comes the question of the lawyers' community's responsibility... They are indeed not directly responsible for what happened in these acts. But they will be held fully responsible if they do not act like a responsible and duteous community in response to these incidents. They have to publicly decry and forthrightly condemn the ones among them who committed such heinous acts. They must disown them, they must not advocate their case, they must cancel their bar membershps etc. And this has to come from the topmost leadership to persuade the whole community. (What about a rally or sit-in by prominent lawyers in protest of "some" lawyers' barbaric behaviour?)

If that does not happen, then the whole community will be held responsible for promoting violence and anarchy in the society. The lawyers will be remembered to be those who took 'freedom of judiciary' for imposing the law of jungle i.e. 'might is right'.
