Default Communication (Journalism)

"Communication".

In my opinion, communication is a necessity of life.A person can not survive without communicating with the people around him.Everyday everyman is communicating with others in some way.Even a person who could not speak or even he is a deaf communicates with others through actions and reactions making impressions and expressions.

As you know that this term has been derived from a Latin word "COMMUNIS" which means common-ness,
or to be common.Basically this is the tool through which we share our ideas, thoughts, views or experiences with others. The basic parameters of communications or the the factors involved to make communication possible are basically three.

Sender, Receiver and the Source(Medium).Let's take and example of Live chat which could easily be called as the best illustration of communication. And could cover more types of communication than any other.

Suppose a man A is transmitting information in the CSS.COM Livechat box about himself to another person B.B sees the message and gets(receives) the information.A is acting as a sender(sending info.) while B is receiver(receiving info.).

After getting the message if an informative response is sent back to the A this is known as the FEEDBACK.
Source is the medium through which it could be possible to create a link between sender and receiver to communicate. In this case the medium is INTERNET and the TOOLS(e.g;Back/front end coding etc) of the IRC program which made the two people able to communicate.

Now after getting information about A now B starts providing A with information about him, now B is the sender as he is the one transmitting information to A and the other is receiving it accordingly A has become the receiver.

Sometimes there may be some obstacles created which could hinder the discussion or could atleast disturb the communication process like net lagging etc. This set back which creates troubles to the communication process is called as Noise(Its best example is the noise experienced during some telephonic communication or in Radio communication).

That type of communication which is done between two people(A & B) only is called as inter-personal Communication. If another person is logged in now, lets suppose C he is also involved as a part of communication, now A is addressing more than one person and thus involving more than two people to turn the inter-personal communication into the micro communication. Similarly, If a large crowd as large as, that more than 10 people have involved in the communication and have started sharing information with others this is called as the Crowd rally communication.

Large Group communication takes place when dozens(like more than 50-100(s)) of people are involved to make a larger number audience than that of the Micro one.
That was a curt introduction to Communication and a brief description of its types. There is another type known as intra-personal involving a single person and the communication takes place within his body(communication between mind and other body organs) or when he is undergoing some kind of soliloquy.

But now I would like to discuss the biggest and the most effective type of communication and perhaps it is the real topic of our discussion called "MASS COMMUNICATION".

Where the audience could be in a great no like thousands or tens of thousands and this sort of communication is basically done via some proper Channel(like on T.V:BBCNews Channel or NewsPapers like Dawn, Jang etc).An example of mass communication on Internet is the sites which have X-large no of visitors who visit the sites quite frequently.Like BBC.CO.UK ,CNN.COM etc.

But here I would like to be precised in accordance with the most popular sources of mass communication.Television has become a necessary installation of every house now a days.More than 100 million TV sets across the world are being used as an informational cum entertainment source. But Radio is still having an upper hand on TV.In continents like Europe ,America and Africa ,Radio is still a prior source used for mass communication.
Mass communication is a tool which could also provide a large no of people with the information which is new and fresh for 'em and they have interest in the subject the information is about. That makes such information a NEWS.

Mass Communication is the type of communication, most frequently used in Journalism. The media may be different like Print and Electronic media but the purpose is the same to educate the people or to make them aware of something.

In this type of Communication, process includes four parameters in general which is a bit different from other types of com.., Communicator(Source also encoder), Message(Cods, Signs or symbols), Channel(Medium e.g:Radio, NewsPapers etc) and the audience.
Communication in journalism is the most important tool and must be utilized with great care. The man who is supposed to act as a source should be powerful and accurate but simple in his utterance. It is seen that mass communication if effectively utilized can change the public views, their ideas and sometimes even their living patterns(life styles). This encoder or info. sender is known as journalist.

While communicating with a large no of people it is almost impossible to present your view before the people in such a way that every man gets his point. So it is better for a journalist that while using the mass communication channel he should attract the attention of the people who may further convey your opinion to impel others. These people are famous or powerful in their respective society or constituency(Politicians, actors , Landlordsetc).Their views mean a lot to the people aroung them.Such people are called Opinion Leaders.

If Opinion Leaders have got your Idea with the same message you as a journalist wanted to deliver. You have won the battle.Such method where communication is done in two steps is known as two step flow of a communication.

Here I end with the Communication.
