Some comments:
Precis is not just the shortening of the passage. It is about incorporating all the ideas in short.
Education an agent of social change in the society
1.In my view your title is not a very good one. For example paragraph says "Education does not develop autonomously: it tends to be a mirror of society and is seldom at the cutting edge of social change"
How you are going to make its title as Education an agent for social change. You are writting your title exactly opposite to what the passage says.
2. You said "It contributes to the skills of younger generation that it embraces during different ages." Where does passage say that? Passage is talking about the future of education, its means and ends. You completely ignored that.
3. Passage says "Today social science frowns on assimilation, seeing it as a form of cultural coercion, so state systems of education are likely to eschew cultural imposition. In effect, the state schools may encourage trends that raise doubts about the purpose or necessity of a state system of education". In simple words the above passage says that social sciences does not like assimilation therefore state schooling system will avoid education which result in assimilation, therefore state schooling system will not work for the purpose for which it is built. You said "Social sciences as a result of cultural change may cause state schools to take initiative about the state system of education." Does your sentence talk anything about the passage?
Different kinds of insects with their significant characteristics
1. Dear it is a good idea to divide the paragraph according to ideas or keywords contained in it, as it will make your precis more elaborate. For example passage goes " When you see a cockroach or a bed-hug your first reaction is one of disgust and that is immediately, followed by a desire to exterminate the offensive creature. Later, in the garden, you see a butterfly or a dragonfly, and you are filled with admiration at its beauty and grace. Man’s feelings towards insects are ambivalent. He realizes that some of them for example, - flies and cockroaches arc threats to health. Mosquitoes and tsetse flies have in the past sapped the vitality of entire tribes or nations. Other insects are destructive and cause enormous losses. Such arc locusts, which can wipe out whole areas of crops in minutes; and termites, whose often insidious ravages, unless checked at an early stage, can end in the destructing of entire rows –of houses."
Main focus lies on the men's feeling towards insects which is primarly the feeling of disgust or that of danger.
2. Passage goes "Yet men’s ways of living may undergo radical changes if certain species of insects were to become extinct. Bees, for example, pollinate the flowers of many plants which are food sources. In the past, honey was the only sweetening agent known to man in some remote parts of the world. Ants, although they bite and contaminate man’s food are useful scavengers which consume waste material that would otherwise pollute the environment."
Here the main focus is on insects benefits to humans.
For the above passage your precis says "Different insects have certain distinguished characteristics. Some are considered to be dangerous and killed at once. Some gather praise for their cuteness and decency. Some have tremendous tendency towards damage that might be crops or a great number of houses. Some are fed by waste products."
Why not to use active voice for men's feelings about insects?
3. Passage goes "Entomologists who have studied insect fossils believe them to have inhabited the earth for nearly 400 million years. Insects live in large numbers almost everywhere in the world, from the hottest deserts and the deepest caves to the peaks of-high mountains and even the snows of the polar caps." Main focus lies on their way of living.
4. Passage goes "Some insect communities are complex in organizations, prompting men to believe that they possess an ordered intelligence. But such organized behaviour is clearly not due to - developed brains. If we have to compare them to humans, bee and ant groups behave like extreme totalitarian societies. Each bee or ant seems to have a determined role to play instinctively and does so without deviation. The word “instinct” is often applied to insect behaviour. But some insect behaviour appears so clear that one tends to think that some sort of intelligenceis at work. For example, the worker bee, upon relating to the hive after having found a new source of nectar, communicates his discovery by a kind of dance which tells other bees the direction and distance away of the nectar."
Main focus lies on men's perception about the existence of intelligence or that of instinct in insects. It simply means that men's view about insects is divided on the issue of intelligence in different insects.
4. You said "For instance, a bee on founding new food indicates other bees to remain away from it by dancing." While passage goes "For example, the worker bee, upon relating to the hive after having found a new source of nectar, communicates his discovery by a kind of dance which tells other bees the direction and distance away of the nectar." Passage simply means that on finding new food source worker bee tells others by a special kind of dance. Does the passage said that bee tells others to remain away? It tells the direction and distance of the nectar. The words used " distance away of the nectar" not the " distance away from the nectar".
Sorry for such a strict assesment.
@omerkhan
A very nice try. You incorporated all in the precis what the passage says.
