I agree "Bacon is not a true moralist. His morality is a saleable morality. He is a moralist-cum-worldly wise man." He is certainly not a moralist. Read his own biography. No doubt he was a learned man and that is how he could reach the court though one of his acquaintances. In return for this favour he got his benefactor killed by the orders of King. See one of his quotes,
"It never bothers a wolf whatever the number of sheep." It is a guideline for the tyrant type politicians.
I like his essays which he wrote in imprisonment but I don't speak well of him
