Can’t say anything on ‘democracy in Pakistan’, as it’s been an endless debate in past. But, as far as construction of dams is concerned, govt’s view in this regard may have some rationales behind this. And one of these rationales is production of electricity, which is crucial for the country at present. As we have faced a great energy crises in the country during past years. Secondly, prices of consumer goods can be brought down if electricity is available at cheaper rates and cost of production is low. And with reference to the ‘consensus of people’, I must say that one’s ego is not bigger than other’s life. And we have to be very pragmatic in order to maintain ourselves on global arena. Provincial assemblies have passed their votes again the construction of dams on some illogical and few logical grounds. Now govt has ignored those illogical grounds, so at this time this is not the question that why govt’s has gone against the provincial assemblies. The question of the day is that how these assemblies should address their logical says? We should plan alternatives for the problems which will caused by the construction of dams (and these are quite manageable), instead of repeating the old stories.
