Brother Raz has briefed about temporary and contract posts, just to add up about nomenclature of advertisement. "Temporary but likely to continue" is the term used in advertisements of Public Service Commission for filling the temporary posts, which have been created by the government for performing certain functions and are likely to become permanent considering the nature of job to be performed by the individuals.
Conversely, if it has explicitly been mentioned at the advertisement that the post is purely temporary then such government servants are not likely to be employed permanently.
Further, till time the post remains temporary and is not converted into permanent nature (posts are at first created as temporary for different duration usually 6 months and their nature is extended time to time by Finance Division considering the works performed by that slot), the government servant cannot be confirmed on that post. But as said by Raz, he/she can enjoy all pricks and privileges of a government servant.
To sum up, there is really no need to worry for this nomenclature, so apply for job and compete well, at the end you will be a government servant.
Regards
