Fiction writers, knowingly or unknowingly affect our personalities and readers are oblivious to this process of change. What we read alters our thought process in the same way as our choice of food affects our bodies. People are influenced by reading the works of various authors irrespective of their age. Poetry influences adolescents not because they are more sensitive to it but because the stronger personality of the poet overrides their own underdeveloped one. By reading the work of different writers, we formulate a critical mind that is not influenced by one writer alone.
