You should do as directed by the examiner... Mostly they ask " Use any five of the following idioms in your own sentences " , in this situation you need not to write the meaning but your sentences should be such as that the meaning of idiom/pair of words become clear. simply you have to give such an impression to the examiner that you know the meaning of idioms/pair of words....
