Default CSS Vs Pak Army

Hi dear snrs and jnrs,

I'm currently serving in Pak Army as Captain. I am planning to appear in CSS 2018. Your advice is requested about the life, job and benefits of CSPs vs Army Officers. I am confused and not making a solid decision.

Kind Regards

I think you should take an advice from someone who has switched from army to civil service. That person can draw a better comparison between these two different careers or more precisely two different life styles. Every year, the quota of army in civil service is filled by the recommendation of GHQ, which you may know as well. So, there's something catchy that makes army officers want to join the civil service. If we take the top three occupational groups (PAS, FSP, PSP) of civil service into consideration then they seem to be a bit more rewarding, lucrative and own a special status in our society and in the eyes of public as compared to army while keeping the "power" factor aside. Among the aforementioned groups, PAS is said to be the most loved one among the aspirants. It lets you push yourself to the policy-making level where you can bring change for the masses.

You see, there's no such thing which you can call perfect. Every profession has its pros and cons. So, before you decide anything, just consider the dominant factor that makes you want to join civil service. And, the written exam is exempted for armed force personnel which is quite a hard nut to crack for the aspirants like us. You seem to have an advantage over us in a sense that you don't have to appear for the written exam, which has become quite difficult to pass since the syllabus was revised. Anyhow, I would like to suggest you to meet someone in person who have had a taste of both of the things, so that you could take an objective decision.

I am highly grateful for your response. As far as the written part is concerned, it is not exempted for all Army officers, Its only exempted for the those 4-5 officers who are recommended by the GHQ and I'm not one out of them. Less those 4-5 officers everyone has to do it like you all are doing. So, in my case there are no exemptions.

Kind Regards

Aoa.
Armed forces officers (Permanent commission) have two options.
1. Open merit like all other aspirants but NOC required from GHQ/NHQ/AHQ.
2. 10 percent fixed quota for armed forces
In this quota
First of all interview at base/ brigade level ( generally no interview) just forward names to Command level GOC/AOC.
At command level only interview then AHQ or GHQ
At GHQ or AHQ, series of tests
a) Psychological assessment like in css
b) Career management team interview and scrutiny
c) Essay writing, group discussions and extempore speeches
d) Final interview with Lt General or Air marshal level
After all this only 2 or 3 officers from PAF, 8 to 10 officers from army and 2 or 3 officers Navy are forwarded to FPSC.
At FPSC first of all psychological assessment same as open merit and then final interview.
Three groups are offered to armed forces FSP, PAS and PSP.
Every year 1 officer from PAF, one from navy and 3 to 4 from army are allocated.
Hope it will help to all.
