Aoa... I l give my opinion according to my experience.
I took initial months just to learn how to right a paragraph and to develop interest in current affairs. Because to get through css ,you need to know how to write and whats going on. So start by working on learning to write paragraph and during this work on your grammar:revise tenses, parts of speech , learn to use phrasal verbs, idioms and parts of speech in your paragraph. Side by side take current affairs syllabus and google it from authentic websites. Develop habit of newspaper.
And while you are working on this, try finalizing your optionals and try to ask around for most authentic and relevant book for optionals.
After you have learnt how to write a paragraph, move on to learning essay writing. Assign each optional eds and islamiat 15-20 days according to syllabus. For eds , use slideshare and wikipedia.
Ignore the passing percentage, peoples remarks and stay confident as well as consistent. Best of luck :)

Well, i have started my css preparation from feb 2017 after finalising my optionals.
First whole month i dedicated to improving my english grammar, tenses, parts of speech and other english writing essential tools.
After working on my english for two months and consulting my sisters , i am almost done with basic english writing tools as plain english writing is core ingredient in css.
From this month, i divided my whole day into three parts to complete my 6 compulsory subjects.
9am-3pm ( pak affairs and islamiat)
4pm-8pm ( current affairs and general science)
9pm-3am( english and essay along with newspaper reading).
in one month i will be able to cover my compulsory subjects and then planned optionals with same strategy.
Division of time helps in preparing diverse subjects at a same time and at the same the keeps the mind fresh.

Well here is what I have planned. I am starting from the scratch so some of you may find it very basic. My focus is on building a sound intellectual base.

Ist months

First of all I am going to focus on my basic knowledge about economics, Pakistan and current affairs.
For example I will focus on basic concepts of economics such as stock market, fiscal rate, inflation, macro economy, micro economy etc. (As I am not familiar with these concepts).

In Pakistan affairs I will first focus on history, geography, social, economic , political and cultural aspects of Pakistan.

Side by side I have decided to do in depth study of e.g French revolution, Russian revolution, WW 1 , WW 2, Brexit, Frexit, CPEC and etc.

Other than that reading dawn daily for current affairs.

During Ramadan I will solely focus on Islamist.

Although it is very difficult to keep yourself motivated for CSS, however, I try to follow these tasks:
1) First of all, I memorized syllabi for optional and compulsory subjects. Whatever I read, I filter it through the lens of syllabi and it helps me to put things into their perspective. I do not know about other people but it helps me to gain knowledge in a systematic way.
2)Read Newspapers. I read news from around the globe. It takes me at least 3 to 4 hours.
3) I practice precis and comprehension daily (one each).
4) I write one page of English and one page of Punjabi daily. I will increase it with the passage of time.
5) Read at least one scholastic article on International Relations.
6) Read anything I could get my hands on. For instance, I am reading Waiting for Godot now.
That is it. I still have to start working on a couple of optional subjects.
