Default Its all about game of mind

It is better said "Don't work hard, work smart", for CE preparation I think it is game of mind and we should always study when our mind really needs. Studying long hours with unclear approach, tension and stress is an absurd idea, rather we should be very comfortable and start study in lively mood, take proper rest and study with clear strategy. One-Hour study of fresh and clear mind is more than study of Five-hours with confused mental approach.

It is a mind game also in the sense that if someone believe that it will be easy to qualify CSS, and don't take much pressure than it could be very easy. Otherwise, no matter how hard one studies, CSS is a tough nut to crack if it is accompanied by overwhelming pressure. Everyone should aim to clear CSS in their first attempt and not take it as test attempt. 2nd and 3rd attempts are full of pressure and chance to qualify CSS in last 2 attempts actually goes down as compared to first attempt because of pressure.

I'm in a dilemma of whether to go for 2018 attempt or not. I dont think i'll be confident about my essay writing skills in the time left. But I do want to take the attempt. I have all three attempts available till 2021.

I think if you are not confident don't go for it. Its another story if you are doing a job or planning for job after 1st attempt. With a stable job, you can easily manage pressure of 2nd or 3rd attempt. If you are going to put all the eggs in a single basket i.e CSS, don't take any of the attempt frivolously.

Though time is subject but still out of curiosity; how much time did it take you to prepare?

And please share your action plan for essay.
Thank you

Thank you
I prepared around 6 months during my first attempt and 3-4 months in second attempt.
For this year essay, gender studies came in handy. For 2016 essay, current affairs came in handy. I relied on Dawn(I didn't read Dawn in my first or second attempt but before that I was reading for a while) and CA book and other course contents for essay. There is usually at least 1 essay that can be easily attempted if one has prepared current affairs, read Dawn and prepared all optionals.
