Any BS/BA degree of a good standing will be useful.

Ultimately success in the CSS means managing 10-12 different subjects. The only skills that benefit throughout the exam are:
- A good grasp on English,
- An ability to write and think at length, again in English.

In themselves, a BA in English and an LLB will teach you that, and make you comfortable with critically reading long, comprehensive texts.

Ultimately, go for whichever you are more passionate about, and see yourself doing for 4-5 years everyday. Neither is directly more beneficial in the CSS since you can only opt for one of the law subjects, and English Literature is again just one subject.

What you CAN do to prepare for your CSS during your university experience is focus on the following:
- Learning a regional language (Persian, Arabic, etc.) or perfecting your own local language (Sindhi, Punjabi, etc.) since these are scoring subjects.
- Maintaining a good level of scientific literacy, for the General Science paper.
- Reading a good national and international newspaper regularly — it helps in Current Affairs, but also in Pakistan Affairs, your Essay, and your general grasp on English.

While both are equally useful for the CSS, personally I would prefer the LLB only because it involves a greater degree of critical analysis of texts and argumentation which is similar to CSS, while in English your exposure will be more towards literature and creative works.
