Default A review about SCOPE CSS CLUB ( an academy in Lahore), Invest wisely

So, i think this review was due on my part. In November, i saw an advertisement on the fb page of SCOPE CSS CLUB for an online session of IR which was to be lasted for one month. The fee was 11500 Pkr. Earlier they offered combined sessions of C.A, P.A and IR for 19500 pkr. I didn't opt for that session because i felt, i don't need much help with P.A and C.A and also the fee felt extra. Also i felt i couldn't spare that much time in my schedule , 4-5hrs, for 3 subjects. So, when i saw this advertisement, i decided to opt for IR as it didn't demand that much time to spare (1&1/2hr). Though i still felt the fee was huge; nonetheless, i decided to go for it if it could solve the problem, i was facing in IR. The advertisement is attached herewith. It clearly mentions IR syllabus for 11500 Pkr and nothing else is mentioned in this post about their policy whatsoever. Anybody please correct me if i'm wrong in perceiving that whole IR syllabus is offered for 11500 Pkr.
So, by this time i had already gone through the syllabus superficially. The only problem i faced was how to apply theory on the current issues given in the syllabus of IR paper 2, and just to address that issue i got myself enrolled in the course offered. I was a bit short of money, so with their permission i deposited 8000pkr and was due to deposit the rest by the mid of December.

Till then i had a highly esteemed opinion of the teachers, as being the most honest with their students and with the profession of teaching itself. So, the session started on 3rd December, and here comes the 1st blow to my highly revered opinion about the faculty. In the very 1st class we were told that the course covers IR paper 1 complete and the IR paper 2 till the portion of post cold war only. As the rest of the syllabus of the IR paper 2 overlaps with C.A, so if one wants to cover that portion they will have to get themselves enrolled in C.A, P.A session by paying 7500 more.
Yes, you heard me right!

So, that felt like i have been trapped into this thing by misleading information. The only reason i joined this session for, is not a part of the session to begin with. Current issues of the IR paper 2 are not part of this course, and felt like i'm kind of forced to get enrolled in the session of C.A & P.A by paying 7500 pkr more if i want to cover the whole syllabus of IR.

The thing is if this is your policy, i have absolutely no right to question it BUT you are supposed to be honest about your policy, and mention it in the advertisement clearly what is included in this package and what is not. Not that you disclose it after you have charged fee by mentioning IR as the whole syllabus. Also the reason given, didn't make any sense to me. The topics mentioned in the syllabus of the IR paper 2 by fpsc ARE the part of IR even if they overlap with C.A, they are to be treated in the context of IR and not in the context of C.A. This was, infact, the reason many students flunked the IR paper 2 in 2017 because they treated those topics as the issues of current affairs and not from the perspective of IR. Also there is no such thing as 10 seats only; the session had almost 40 students.
After all this, I didn't feel it was of much help to me. I had attended only 1 class, and with utmost respect i asked the teacher if they could refund my fee even if half of it as i want to quit and i was told they are sorry, they won't. This was the second and Ultimate blow which forced me to right this review. 4000pkr (half of 8000) might not have made much difference to a teacher who is earning millions from the business but it might have meant a lot to a struggling student who didn't even benefit from your knowledge. I mean how one, and the ONE who is A TEACHER before a businessman and takes pride in being called a teacher, can justify that money for himself.

My intention, here, is not to taint or harm an individual or a business. I hold nothing against anyone. I just have a bad habit of being vocal about what doesn't feel right. What i got out of this whole episode is that there is not any kind of teacher-tudent relationship but only of client-business and that is perfectly OK too IF, ONLY IF, you have a professional approach towards your business, your clients (students) are trusting you with. And it is not based on manipulating the needs of students who are desperate for honest guidance, and are willing to pay you for it. This is just an honest review of how my experience has been with the said business to help others see things clearly and decide for themselves. Invest wisely. Don't fall for advertisements, without knowing what you are getting, for what you are paying. This is only my personal experience and view of the business; one might agree or disagree.

I do agree with your statement. Kips Academy did the same thing with us in Pakistan affairs, as some of the topics in PA collapse with IR. With due safe of time, energy and resources, they always repeat the same things again and again although such topics are alloted to a particular subject but still it happens everywhere.

I am feeling sorry to hear your story. The academies are just money making machines without any regard for the student. You should have asked about review and alternative options before joining that academy. But, now the damage is done.
Memorize glossary from any IR book. Use the terms in your answers where it seems possible and correct.
In pak india relations you can use thucydides trap, strategic dilemna, national interest, alliances, containment, arms race, etc.

I didn't join the academy; it was an online course offered via zoom.com for IR only. In 2016, i got 102 in IR (69+33) without going to any academy, and i prepared for 2 weeks only. After that i felt like i needed help with IR paper 2, as in i didn't know how to apply theories on current issues. For that reason only i got myself enrolled in the whole course offered for IR only to find out it was just another business trap, and (guidance aside) they are not honest even in doing business as well. After they had charged fee for the full course of IR ,they revealed that if we want to cover that area of the IR paper 2 ; we'll have to enroll in another course of C.A & P.A by pay 7500 Pkr more.
Anyhow, i'am grateful for your tips and back on this forum to get my concepts cleared.

You are right. Still, my views about the teacher who is teaching that particular course were very positive; as he himself indulges in self praise often. Turns out otherwise.
