Default Seeking Advice

Hi,

I am a long time lurker and wanted to attempt CSS in 2014 but my life was completely flipped and wasn't able to do it.

Right now, i am a sole breadwinner which means i have to work at least 6-8 hours on avg. a day.

I am considering preparing now and attempt CSS in 2021 and if i wasn't able to clear in the first attempt i will have 2022 as well.

So here is what i am asking,

Is it possible to clear CSS by giving 25-30 hours a week?

i am considering joining KIPS as i have been cut off from all studies since 2013 and really need to get back on track.

I am from Sahiwal but i will move to Lahore for couple of months now to prepare and keep working by myself back home after the training of a month or two.

My bachelor was in commerce and i have a master degree in Computer science, which subjects are suitable for me?

I was thinking

Computer Science
Criminology
Public Administration
History of USA
Journalism & Mass Communication

Lastly, i want to join either Police Services or Administrative services, i think i know your subject doesn't affect which service you want to join but deep inside i feel there should be something about it.

Choose your subjects on the basis of ;
1 . Your interest (Natual tendency .Check syllabus and past papers )
2. Your aptitude for a particular subject (check its past papers , and see if you can solve it comparatively better )
3. Scoring trend (Check the previois marks of candidaties in the subject )

Everyone is different .So , decide as per your inclination.

You can easily prepare for 2020 as well , as long as you make a proper plan and follow it deligently .Since you are the bread earner for your family , and you might have financial considersations .So , think before spending money on academy .. Why not spend that money on your essay preparation .Consult a competent essay teacher . you can do the rest of the preparation by youtself ,However , these are my thoughts .Analyze yout situation .You are the best judge of your self .Good luck .

Just two suggestions
1) Choose your subjects more wisely...right now your subjects do not have any relation with each other...Think and consult again for subjects

2) The Best academy for css in my opinion is World Times...thet have dedication, focus, method and process...So if you have decided to go in academy go in WTI.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my post and giving suggestions.

i tried to choose high scoring subjects with good results in the past few years so i think that is pretty much it but again as i said i am confused if your subject selection has something to do with service you can join?

I was definitely thinking to signup with some Essay teacher but i am very beginner, either i need hand-holding of someone qualified or i have to spend money in academies, i think instead of wasting time on searching over the internet and being bombarded with loads of suggestion, i am better off spending some cash and getting straight to the point.

I will appreciate if you have some other suggestions for me.

Thank you for your suggestion brother, i really appreciate it. Yeah, i heard quite a lot about WTI, do you happen to know their fee structure? I will call them though and see what they are offering.

I am thinking to join right after Eid and have a good 2-3 month sessions with all the resources i can find so i can move back to my home town and continue working per my schedule.

As for the subjects, you are right, there are subjects that are correlated but i think some of the pairs weren't good scoring subjects recently?

=====

What books should i buy for compulsory subjects? Authors? publishers?
I really don't have time to spend hours watching TV to keep myself updated with current issues, is there any updated book that cover recent happenings?

Your subjects are highly relevent in viva and play an indirect role in your allocation .The panel might ask some questions regarding your subjects .For instance , if FSP is your first preference then the panel might ask about international issues in detail ..In that case ,if you have opted for IR / USA history /IL then you would be in a better position to answer the interview questions .But it does not mean that your subjects are the sole determinants of your allocation .There are many factors at play .So dont worry about allocation for now and select subjects which can land you in the interview room .

Afterwards , CSPs have Specialized training programs in which they are tought relevant subjects of their occupational groups .So dont worry about relevancy of subjects vis a vis occupational groups .

Yes , find a competent mentor and teacher for essay and compostion papers .The money you spent is your investment in yourself .IT will save you a lot of time and will steer you in the right direction .

If you are in KP , go for sir ateeq (the best teacher for essay and precis ).
Outside KP , there are many teachers ..Hamood Ranjha is one ..He is very competent .GET HIM.

Good luck

I appreciate your detailed response, good sir.

I just looked through results of optional papers from 2014-2017 and these are the %age for different subjects i thought i would be good at.

History of USA - 87%
International Law - 79%
Gender Studies - 75%
Journalism & Mass Communication - 73%
History of Pakistan and India - 72%
Public Administration - 63%
Criminology - 79%
International Relations - 63%
Computer Science - 62%

%age refers to a score of 33 or above in CSS-2014-2017.

Now due to subject selection limitation from each group, here is what i came up with.

History of USA
International Law
Gender Studies
Journalism & Mass Communication
History of Pakistan and India
Public Administration

Here are my thoughts on these.

General Knowledge will help in History of USA & History of Pak & India and vice versa.

International Law will provide material for Essay's - Fingers Crossed

Gender Studies, Journalism & Mass Communication & Public Administration has a very brief syllabus and are good scoring subjects so i guess i would do just fine.

I am going to consult few people around and see. Any suggestions from this forum is highly appreciated.

Thank you for pointing that out, I wrote a comment in front of the wrong subject while picking these.
