Some questions about CSS

Hi, i'm a beginner and want some information about CSS. Questions are for sure very basic but i need to clear things before jumping into it.

1: What about optional subjects? I mean the Groups what are they for? We have to select whole group of optional subjects or we can chose any subjects from any group without any problem?

2: How much time does it consume to get selected as an officer? (For the day of first exam to final selection)

3: Test, interview and medical (are these only tests or i missed something? And order of tests is right?)

4: There must be training for officers right? What is the duration of training?

5: What about final appointment? A person from Punjab will be appointed in Punjab or probability to be sent to other provinces? Similarly a person from AJK OR GB will be posted in AJK AND GB or in oyher provinces too?

These are basic questions i'd highly appreciate your time. Thanks in advance.

You should read CSS rules in detail. Also have a look at syllabus folder. It will answer most of your queries. Here is link of CSS rules:

Syllabus:

http://www.fpsc.gov.pk/sites/default/files/Revised_Syllabus_for_CE-2016_and_onwards_0.pdf

1- Read rules. You will get clear idea about subject selection.
2,3,4- From first day of examination, it takes approximately 7 to 9 months to declare written part result. After that, there are three more stages i.e. medical, psychological and viva. Final result further takes 7 to 9 months. After that common training program (CTP) of 6 months in civil service academy. After CTP, special training program (STP) duration of which is different for all occupational groups. In some occupational groups such as foreign service of Pakistan (FSP), foreign language course is also a part of training before joining.
5- Male candidates can be appointed all across Pakistan. Even if someone is lucky to get postings in his province, it is mandatory to serve three years in some other province. Females are only appointed in their own province.
