Default CSS after CA

Hi guys,

I am facing this dilemma from last six months where i can't decide whether i should go for CSS or not.

A bit of my background; i'm 25, i am a qualified chartered accountant & working in one of the big 4 audit firms and earning some good bucks.
Though i nearly topped my F.Sc. exams and was inducted in NUST and UET but i left them to pursue CA, you know i thought it is tough and i can get some good $$$, so i jumped in. I was a fool. Now that i'm done with it, I've realized this is not what i wanted to do.
I hate this profession to my guts and the kind of work i have to perform on a daily basis is as bitter as anything. Also, another main factor is the amount of time i put in (sometimes for no obvious reason). Late sittings on daily basis and listening to shitty managers makes it worst.

I have no interest for money, even if i get like 50k max, i'll be more than happy (i'm earning roughly the same currently), all i want is to travel the world, work for a max of 5-6 hours and romance (funny but true, consider it a joke). So, I want a job where i can work the least and can pursue my interests (i write, i am good with cosmology and IT, and i am a gamer).

Currently i am earning good salary but i can't focus on my interests as i am working like a mad dog. I need a lot of time, which i have figured out i can only get in government jobs. Because as long as i am working elsewhere they will pay me well, but i literally don't want to work and i hate sitting late because then i can't do what i love.

Also i can't make writing/cosmology (gaming set aside) my field of work because they have no scope of any sort, and then again my present qualifications will render useless. They can only be continued as a side hobby.

So i have two options: a) Find a government job relating to finance/accounting b) Go for CSS

If i go for (b), the downside is that my qualifications til now will go in vain but i'll put in lesser hours.
If i choose (a) then i won't have the perks and power of a CSS guy and accountants everywhere work as dogs, it's also hard to find a govt job on merit unlike CSS. (I want to work less)

So yea, i need help. I just need some advice for my current situation. Correct me if i have some wrong info.

Please let me know what do you reckon i should do about this thing?

Many Thanks

Hi LZ

Pardon me for replying to a post that describes much of what I have been through, too. Well more or less, if we are going for details. But let's not go there.

What interests me the most is you want to do what you really want to, but have been stuck for half an year. Which is what many a people go through, too.

My advice, as a 28 years old dad and a seasoned juggler of jobs, would be to reconsider your approach to the problem, i.e. CSS isn't the only other option you have.

And I am sure others would have much better advice, but that's what I think.

Dear LZ,

You may consider to:

Go for ecommerce and earn online, if you prefer more money for less work and have a knack for SEO and being a social media guru.

Go for teaching, it is most rewarding IMHO and you can have plenty of time for vacations if you get the right amount of flexibility in your schedule of being a visiting our temporary lecturer at a decent college or uni. Being permanent pays off better in the long run.

Go for property dealing, if you want to score big in one go and rest for a long time till you're next big gig, but it requires heavy investment and careful considerations, (but in life, what doesn't!?!)

Hope it helps.

Hi, I'm 22 and an ACCA finalist. I'm hoping to attempt the CSS exams in 2017, the reason being the disrespect accountants get in the early to middle years. Audit firms make you work 10-12 hours a day for a meagre salary of 10 k, lol

I've had a look through the accounting and business papers and they look like a piece of cake for us CA/ACCA students. The two English papers might be a problem, but I've done O/A level so I might just scrape through (I got an A* in 'O level English)

I know how you feel, the reason being the disrespect accountants get in the early to middle years. Audit firms make you work 10-12 hours a day for a meagre salary of 10 k, those fat clownish 'partners' sit in their air conditioned rooms while sending us in the sweltering heat to check up on other people's privacy, lol, like I was at KPMG for 9 months (unpaid btw), when I asked for my certificate they were like "lol what have you done for us?", not realising I had gone to Taxila, Gujranwala and some other Godforesaken places for THEM.

Yes, i do not have any financial issues atm, so i would rather do something that makes me happy rather than earn a little, sitting in a cubicle for the rest of my effin life.
The property and online wouldn't do for me.

To spill the beans, i did ACCA, then i went to London, there i pursued CFA and FRM, i also got the BSc (ox brookes one they give), i did MSc there in finance outta interest because CFA and finance seemed interesting to me, then when i came back i gave the ICAEW exams and i'm done with those too. So i got like 6 degrees/qualifications. I am working in Deloitte from 2.5 years and i hate it, i literally hate what i do. It's also not about the audit firm, when i imagine myself passing these double entries and making financials all my life, i kinda die man.
If i pursue a career in finance, again it will have longer working hours though higher salary. Since i have some good family business income coming in, i don't want to spend my life working crazy hours, i feel that's a waste.

So here lies the dilemma, if i quit now i will have these 6 good for nothing qualifications go in vain, if i don't i will end up as a corporate dog.

I even talked to my parents, they said why did you waste so many years learning all this, when you had to go for CSS in the first place, now how can i tell them that i only got to know after working in this crap field.

Or with this CV, i can go for a government job. But then i think k agar government job he karni hai then CSS is more powerful of a thing. But when i think of doing that, i think of the years wasted in doing the accountancy bullshit. HAHA

You guys are kinda young man, so you can pursue CSS. But given my situation what do you think i should do?

With your expertise and qualifications, I see a consultancy firm or being a Financial consultant as the appropriate field. But why not teaching?
