First identify which of your exams require an understanding of economic issues. Out of your six compulsory subjects, the Essay, Pakistan Affairs and Current Affairs require economic knowledge. Second, go through the past papers and identify which aspects of the economy you can be questioned on. Third, just read the business section of dawn daily, you will automatically pay attention to stories that are relevant from an exam perspective.
Side Note: google terms you don't understand, none of them are too complicated. |

Since I'm from engineering background so I'm facing the same problem but I have found its solution. The economics we deal with at country level is called macroeconomics. Get a book of macroeconomics and study the basic terms such as Foreign Direct investment; inflation, how it's calculated, CPI, Budget how it is made, foreign reserves and their role etc. Moreover read other economics related stuff as what is NFC, etc
Trust me Yellow pages and Business section of newspaper would gradually start making sense. I hope that works for you too. Best of Luck |

Salam.
Generally newspapers and magazines use Macroeconomic terms such as GDP,GNP,growth rate, fiscal and monetary policy,PPP,HDI,gini coefficient, poverty line etc.so I will suggest you to read Mankiw's Macroeconomics and keep a little notebook to memorise these terms.Mankiw's book is easy to grasp;even for a person with no economics background. Although if you don't have much time then google the definitions and note them down.there are approximately 50 main terms. |

I thought of taking a crash course in economics (YouTube) but I hated that too. Turns out that I REALLY am not cut out for this. I skipped all of the articles in the finance section in DAWN. I read The Economist and still skip the business parts ( Unless it's about Facebook or Google, I don't care). Yes, Current Affairs, Pakistan Affairs and Essay will have topics on Finance and Economy in the exam. But out of all these, there will be only ONE topic at the most about economy. I skipped it, since the alternative was killing myself while reading all of the boring economic terms and not understanding a whit.
