Post Need Advice

Hello dear members of this forum. I'm an 18 year old girl and I have just completed college. Passing the CSS exam is the main goal in my life. I think I have got enough time to do the preparation for CSS exams and I'll be taking admission in English Department so that I could learn English on a much greater level. There are some advises which I needed from you people that what are the main things which are really really necessary for the preparation of CSS?
How do I know that I have the potential to achieve this goal in my life? My grades have not been good in my board exams.. and from where I should start preparing? I mean that I would be majoring in English first, but during that time I want to prepare for the other subjects too but I don't where to start or how to start.
Any advice would be really great.
Thanks

You must complete your graduation with great Concentration first. Its good sign that u have set your goal, now u have to take path which leads you to the achievement of your goal. By the way English is better choice than any other subject because it has vital role in CSS.

That's really a very good decision. You must start and maintain the habit of deep study of books related to your areas of interest. Further. U need to be in contact with the expert persons in those fields. Best wishes. Regards,

Great to know that you have set your goal at this stage and being ambitious and passionate about your goal will make you study hard and smart to achieve your set goals. Your English is actually quite good for your level.
Yes for start choosing English as major subject in bachelors is an excellent choice but one thing is most important in this regard that during that phase focus on learning English and do lots and lots of practice specially of parts which are part of CSS syllabus like essay, precis, composition, translation, synonyms, antonyms, pair of words, idioms etc instead of cramming every thing because by cramming you can pass bachelors but not CSS.
CSS syllabus is vast and there is not set book of syllabus of English compulsory subjects and you need to learn and practice as much as you can.
In CSS upper age limit is now 30 so, I want to advise you to complete not only your bachelors but also masters before applying for CSS since you have almost 12 years to do that.
During bachelors and masters starting preparing for CSS English. Start with basics like tenses, direct/indirect, active passive, grammar, punctuation etc. After getting sound expertise on these go to advanced level. Starting learning new words 5-10 each day with meaning/synonym/antonym because it will later help you in not only English paper but also in other subjects. Than get help from this forum and its seniors members (CPS's better choice). You can download syllabus from here. Can take opinion about books and can ask about any problem you are facing during study. Gradually start preparing them. Going in academies at this stage is waste of time but you should get a good teacher for guidance and work evaluation in a year in which you are intended to appear.
Learning English according to CSS during your graduation and masters will not help you in two compulsory English subjects but also you can chose English Literature as your optional subjects.
Start reading Dawn news paper on daily basis. It is easily available online for Free as well. At start you might feel it is difficult but with the passage of time you will learn new words and it will also help you in construction of structure. Dawn will also help you in preparing subjects such as essay, current affair, Pakistan affairs, International relations etc.
Keep in mind that their are 6 compulsory subjects of 100 marks each and optional subjects of 600 which are 4-6 subjects of 100-200 marks each. So, there will also be loads of subjects not related to your major subject. At the moment you do not need to chose optional but when you do, do so rationally and carefully depending upon education back ground, interest, scoring trend and easily absorb able syllabus. Start with English and than slowly move towards general knowledge, current affairs, Pakistan affairs etc
Start making notes of whatever you learn. Since you have ample time, you can make 2 kinds of notes:
1- Comprehensive- To understand topic your way with complete relevant information as much as you can get
2- Short notes- For revisions (e.g. outlines of essays etc) to revise all syllabus on exam night as you have to give two papers in a day on consecutive days so, it is real hard to revise from comprehensive notes.
At this stage follow my advise. Start with English after that you can prepare compulsory subject depending upon time you can spare. If you want to select you optional subjects at this stage feel free to ask. I will help you gladly. Optional subjects should not be prepared so early as they can change subjects, syllabus etc and also with time interests and trends of subjects changes very quickly. If you are going for English as major subject than English Literature carrying 100 marks can be one of your options but you will have to choose other optional subjects which are not going to have any relation with your major subject but do not worry everyone faces that problem and luckily some subject are interesting and can be learnt without taking help from any teacher.
The bomb question: How you can know that if you have ability to do that? Well who has said that CSS is only for toppers. In actual there is heavy percentage of students who were poor in their academics but they have exceptionally performed in CSS. Everyone can do that with right guidance, motivation, inspiration, guidance, smart & hard study and off course prayers and luck. Do not get demotivated by what other says to you. Just focus on your goal. Study smartly and hard and try to achieve your goal with full passion and motivation. Keep praying.
I hope I have sufficiently replied to your query. If you need further help regarding anything related to CSS you can ask in same thread. I and others will try to help you as much as we can.
Good Luck.
Keep Smiling

Thank you so much for your advice, it helped a lot! I've been watching news and reading newspaper now a days, been trying to make it a habit of mine and yes I've actually thought about the optional subjects too. There's a group which contains the subjects Zoology, botany, gender studies, agriculture, forestry, English Literature and Urdu literature I've been thinking about. I'm pretty good at zoology and English Literature but I'm still not sure about the other subjects, but right now my main focus is on the compulsory subjects. Btw thanks again and if I ever need help again I will surely post a thread here again!
Thanks ^_^
