Farrah Zafar has rightly suggested Wren & Martin's book. In addition, I would like to add a very beneficial book especially for CSS Precis & Composition paper: 'Exploring the world of English'. I consulted this book in my both attempts of CSS and secured 61 and 78 marks respectively.

We've a huge container of ideas in shape of our mind.
charity begins at home
try to elaborate your own perceptions first.
practice a paper work on them... make them easier by attaching examples and more meanings...
this is what poets and other scholars do.....

try to be a little philosophical in ur pursuit and take a cognitive notice of demonstrable as well as abstract objects around you.

watch out if you left any stone unturned while giving details to your precise ideas.

later on proceed to the ideas of others , found in books,magazines,npapers,t.v,forums,blogs and the like other sources...

you will feel easy to deal with them thereafter.

if you are only css centered soul... let me refer you to a book for idea expansion that may help you a gud deal in the context of this particular exam

this is "idea expansion " by manzor mirza...

give it a try..........

purepeak has nicely poured light on this. I would like to add something:
While expanding an idea/sentence always try to understand the cetral thought of the sentence given. You may also speak in favour or against the idea but supplement it with logic, arguments and examples. To start with, simply write what actually is the meaning or what the sentence is trying to convey... then take a position and support it with logic, give some examples. For example, if you are given a proverb; 'A stich in time saves nine' you will write its meaning that this proverb actually highlights the importance of time and that we should not put off till tomorrow what we can do today because it may save us a lot of precious time.... Now you may give examples from daily life like a student may perform better if he studies the whole year. But if he starts studying only when exam starts he may fail in the exam... so every thing look good on its time....so on...... In the end, you may again summarize the sentence in different words and thats it..

Precis Writing by R.Dhillon

@usman sir

@Usman Bhai

Sir i have attempted this year and did not find it (Composition Paper) difficult because i had prepared from some books. The paragraph was piece of cake for me because i had already prepared Journalism so my topic was "Yellow journalism". Idioms, corrections and narrations went well but the question of mine is that i am not satisfied with my precis writing ? I have the book named R.D Dhillon. Kindly suggest me some hints regarding Precis writing?

Another question " Can i write the same paragraph of Yellow journalism taken from book?' If yes reasons if not than only got ideas?

@Asi01
Dear, I would again recommend the same book. There are other good books on this topic, but I mainly consulted Exploring the World of English. Precis Writing is not a hard nut to crack. One needs to remember necessary rules and apply these in the given passage. The suggested book contains guidelines and tips for Precis Writing along with some solved examples.

Here is also given some piece of advice:
