Default PLEASE GUIDE! I LAW OR MUSLIM LAW for Ce 18

AOA guys,

I hope you are all fine . I have decided to appear in upcoming Ce 18 exams with my first attempt. Subject selection is always a tough job for me . Till now , I have decided to select I R, public ad , History of US, Psychology(related to my field) but stuck in choosing between I law or muslim law as I have gone through syllabus of both subjects and found both of them equally technical in term of jargons and complex terms . Learning conventions and their articles in law is important while attempting muslim law without relevant ayats and ahadees is useless . But I felt muslim law to be less lengthy and close to my heart.( I don't know why). Seniors please guide me how to sort out this problem of subject selection. Should I opt Muslim law or go with I Law.

Thank you.

First of all i must admire your nick 'Valiant' brave, courageous (y)

Dear Valiant,

IR, US history and I.law will complement each other. Similarly, Muslim law and Islamic studies will complement each other. Read and analyze the syllabus of both papers and then make a decision. Both I.law and M.law are interesting and challenging. As for my opinion, I prefer I.law more and recommend you as well.

Best of luck.

@ nadanhafee and @ mmawaqar

Thank you for your sincere input regarding subject selection. I am going to consider Int law as it is complementing I R . Memorizing jargons and articles are tough to do but what can we expect in css as we are going to compete with rest .

Thanks a lot

International Law is a part of IR. Go for it.

Now you've opted a subject (IR) from social sciences as your majors in optionals it's better to replace Public Ad with a social science subject as well, in my opinion. It could be Gender Studies or Anthropology and having a strong grip on psychology these subjects won't be a big problem for you.

I would like to thanks for your sincere guidance about my optionals. Now, Subject belonging to social sciences like anthropology lies in group where psychology is present and I am opting psychology as it is my subject in which I obtained my masters degree so anthropology is no option . Yes selection of public ad can be reviewed against gender studies but I heard that gender studies still need some solid books or quality notes through which someone can really score good marks and do correct me if I am wrong while public ad has different books including that of sultan khan's recommended by csp's and senior members . I am more of concern with good resource for subjects than my aptitude or special taste.

Thank you

Well, the books are already there by prominent scholars. Personally, I don't think Dogar, Jehangir or any other Urdu Bazar book can do justice to this subject. So it's better to focus on books mentioned by FPSC.

50 % of GS is psychology, 30 % anthropology and 20 % from other social sciences subjects. That was made a seperate subject in 90s. Comparatively GS jargon is easy for a social student rather than PAs. All of GSs social construction theories are taken from prominent psychologists like Galtung and Freud.

Even If you can't get a book in Pakistan mentioned by FPSC, these days it can be ordered on-line. Or, one can use Britannica Encyclopedia, Stanford Encyclopedia or other GSs journals online. (To get an idea of theoretical aspect of the subject).

Next part of GSs course is Pakistani dynamics, and interestingly these are materials by our intellectuals like Robina Seigol and Farzana Bari. These are easily available. Then there are case studies of Mukhtar Mai, Malala, Sharmen Obaid. These are all online.

Importantly, this is a research based subject and your input would give you more command on the subject.

Now the choice is yours; GS or PA

Before you opt optionals, go through their question papers as well. Muslim law and jurisprudence paper was quite unconventional. Almost 3 questions were out of syllabus. International law is part of IR syllabus, but after attempting it two years in a row, i can say that ir papers had nothing of i.law in it, though latter is a safe subject as compared to muslim law.

Certainly! your post shows your insight regarding GS . Have you attempted the paper of GS or you have some kind of degree??? . Now I am seriously thinking to switch from PA to GS , now another question arises in my mind about length of syllabus of both subjects which one is easily digestable ???

secondly! If you have gone through preparation phase of GS then how many days do we require to tackle GS if spare with 4 to 5 hours daily .

Thank you
