Here is a post by Tabassum Bahi on the other forum

Agriculture

Understanding towards agriculture, it is yellow titled book and perhaps compiled by akthar/asif malik, this book contains many topics, but it has not been proof read so contains many grammatical and spelling mistakes

- yellow pages, which comes with dawn of every monday

- there is a series of books by national book foundation like horticulture, plant breeding, extension methods etc., these are also very helpful

in addition to above, you may like to see any of the articles in various dailies and journals related to agriculture.

(Thanx TSA)

AoA

sorry for being late as i was bzy, thnx Hamid for pasting this posting here, may Allah bless you

The foremost thing is syllabus, one must go through the syllabus and then move forward.

-------------------------
1. Agriculture :

Syllabus provides sufficient help to aspirants. For agriculture, I had got benefit from the following sources :

a) Books published by National Book Foundation in collaboration with USAID like Horticulture, Plant Breeding, Extension Methods etc., these can be found in good libraries

b) Agriculture by Asif Malik

c) Agriculture by Masood A. A. Qureshi

d) Yellow pages coming with the Dawn of Monday

e) and some articles published in different journals like Pakistan and Gulf Economist etc.

f) economic survery of Pakistan

However, the paper was a bit generalized and after going through the above sources, I got the following result :

a) reliable source
b) Asif Malik has only compiled this book, though he tried to get the information from various articles but the overall impression of the book is very bad, it also contain a number of spelling and grammatical mistakes nd on certain occasions the sense is not clear so one can avoid it
c) Though Qureshi sb. also got information from various sources but the data is old
d) Yellow pages are very helpful and specifically for generalized porition one can trust them
e) helpful
f) very helpful

In the light of above, i can say that first of all one must get the basic information of the subject like what are plants, animals, ecosystem, ecology, plant community, range etc. then one can go for the subject.

--------------
2. Forestry :

The syllabus of forestry only contains main points that is the main reason that one must have be having broad reading and studying.

Forestry remained a good scoring subject untill 2004, the papers of 2004 and 2005 were very different from the previous ones, though i tried to complete the questions but the paper was very changed, i got benefit from the following sources :

a) Two volumes of Prof. Dr. Masood A. A. Qureshi

b) Yellow pages coming with the Dawn of Monday

c) articles published in various journals

d) internet

Similarly for the forestry, one must clear the basic points like plants, animals, habitat, environement and their inter-relationing, ranching/range management, shrubs, trees their types, temperature/climate zones of the country and vegetation distribution etc.

Prima facie of the question paper perturbed me, however, i gain nerves and cautiously moved forward, by the grace of Allah i am a bit satisfied the paper, it was indeed the worst paper for me.

Ipso facto, perhaps the aspirants, if dont know the basics of botany and forestry, can avoid this subject but it could be a high scoring subject provided hard work is there and one can get good sources for the preparation of paper

----------

3. Botany :

Actually i did B.sc. and botany was my subject, so i did opt the botany, i got the help from a number of sources which, inter alia, included volumes of Dr. Smith, Majeed Sons, some of Carvan Books, internet and many other books and articles published in various journals. Though my basic knowledge was of bachelors level and i did get benefit from the books read out at bachelors but they helped me a lot by HIS grace.

The papers were good and a bit generalized (specifically the IInd paper).
-----------------------

Perhaps the above could be of an ample help to the aspirants
