Subject Selection Dilemma - CE 2020
Hi members,
I need your help in selecting subjects for CE-2020. I have attempted twice in 2016 (failed in precise) and 2017 (failed on aggregate). My subjects have stayed the same in those two attempts: IR (109 in 2016) (106 in 2017) I-law (61 in 2016) (66 in 2017) Public Administration (58 in 2016) (51 in 2017) Gender Studies (53 in 2016) (81 in 2017) History of USA (58 in 2016) (66 in 2017) I have been following what happened in 2018 exam in which IR and US history candidates were slaughtered. I can't wait till October to find out what happens this year as I have to prepare for my optional subjects. The question is, Whether I stay with the same subjects or change IR to Political Science and US History to History of Indo-Pak? As I am attempting after a gap of 2 years, I need a little guidance from the active members of the forum. Thanks! |

Bro.According to my opinion you should follow the previous combination.
Because you have a previous familarity with these subjects.

I think there is no point in changing a 200 marks subject. You did pretty well in IR considering that it was targeted in 2017. History of Indo-Pak has been low-scoring subject since 2016 and if you look at the exam for 2019 you can see that it can be quite unpredictable. I think you may at max change one subject. For example, opt for a regional language in place of Public Ad. Apart from that, it’s better to go for the same subjects. |

Hi,
Thanks for the help guys. Just to clear one misconception that I had failed on aggregate in 2016 and failed precise in 2017 by 3 marks. (I wrote the opposite) Strategy for I.R: My mentor was Dr. Huma Baqai as I have graduated from IBA Karachi. I frequently wrote answer scripts of old CSS questions and made her check those for me. Same goes for I-Law. Strategy for GS: Gender Studies was also one of the subjects I aced thanks to one of my mentors of Social Science School at IBA. He helped me clear concepts as well as helped me on how the subject is related to Pakistan. Again, I wrote answer scripts from Questions at the end of Gender Studies book by Aman Gondal available in the market. Strategy for US History: Nothing special to be honest. Cold war is one of the subjects I really liked and it was the reason why I had opted for it. I remember that I had attempted questions that were related to recent scenarios etc like Bush doctrine, great depression, US elections, role of USA in conflicts etc . I had avoided the typical history questions i.e before 1900s. |
