The Best Optional Subjects for CSS
Indo-Pak History (200 marks)
International Relations (100 marks)
Journalism (100 marks)
Sociology (100 marks)
Public Administration (100 marks)
Here the Indo-Pak History I, is a a fairy tale of Muslim rule in India which is interesting to read and learn and yields good marks, while Indo-Pak History II is entirely the same as compulsory Pak Affairs, so you only have to prepare one syllabus for two papers, also this gives you a better view of ideology of Pakistan and how things evolved.
International Relations and compulsory paper of current affairs are very related and compliment each other to the extent that you will hardly find much difference. Journalism also has touch of current affairs and is an easy subject to grasp. Sociology is nothing more than our every day life with manageable academic content while the public administration is also not too tough and gives a civil services aspirant an insight of things one should be aware of and can help in preparing for the interview.

It isn't Horrible, trust me. I took Indo-Pak history exam couple of years back, being highly ill-prepared, still managed to score 45 in Paper I and 58 in paper II. Plus the help you get for Pakistan affairs is a bonus.

I agree with you. These are not the best optionals, these are the EASIEST optionals for css. Indo pak definitely is low scoring..Journalism is very risky in my opinion

It was not just Indopak this time. Lots of other "popular" optional subjects also ditched candidates.
Geography,
Journailsm
US History (average range was 45-50 marks)
IR
Pushto
Punjabi
and many others.
So if you think that all are bad, then my question is what will you opt?
A trend which I have noticed is that there are alot of candidates who are desperately trying to prepare Psychology, as it gave comparatively better marks. I wonder what would be the outcome of this.... My personal opinion.... Not good.

dear indo pak economics and IR covers 500
well indo pak is not considered scoring subject these years don't know about the coming one , but it's safe to avoid messy things economics is scoring in academic sessions but in css it gives average score and there are hardly few who got good score in recent past years
IR is better than the above 2
your educational background ? so it will become easy for members to guide you about the scoring subjects may be according to your background
and this is the fact that there are few scoring and few low scoring subjects but this is also true that low scoring subjects also give good score but % of those who get good score is very low , so its safe to follow general scoring trend

Is the selection of my optional subjects right??
I have done my MBA in Human Resource Management. I just wanted to make sure that whether my choice of subjects is right or not as I am having alot of doubts in my mind time to time.
Geography (200 marks)
USA history (100 marks)
Public Administration (100 marks)
Journalism (100 marks)
International Law (100 marks)
also recommend me good books for these subjects so that it would be easy for me to make notes.
