First of all here examples of qualifiers those who clear CSS even with just month preparation some of those even top the exam.
Second 1 year of proper preparation in enough but CSS is game of long run.
Third, English, most difficult for science students as I done master in Mathematics. I failed in PMS Eng Composition paper. Now I also concentrating on English following B.A books , Jahangir World Time To The Point English, Dawn and many other short books for vocabulary as well as to improve fluency.
But in my point of view proper practice and check and balance is necessary.

Css is not abt cramming rather it is abt being analytical

CSS is least abt cramming. One should rather must have an analytical mind, ability to analyze things. It is like IGCSE / O A LEVELS where papers r given according to pre-determined syllabi. It is not like Matriculation where cramming frm a fixed set of books is feasible.
