How to attempt a paper

Attempting a paper is a tricky job; I will take up issues one by one:

Language

In order at attempt the paper of any subject of CSS, you must know that there is no need of use a language that is very complex to understand. Simple language that makes sense and that can convey you thoughts is good enough for you to pass the papers with flying colors.

Planning the answers

In my opinion, it is a good idea to plan the question before hand. It gives us an edge over other. You can spend in this planning for sometime and then start attempting the question. The planning of answer is same as you are planning your essays; the only difference is that the answers to questions will be shorter as compared to Essay.

Can we use markers?

Yes markers are allowed for putting heading. Apart from it, there is no restriction to not to use ball pen but in my view, fountain pen sheds a positive impact. You can always use markers and pointer pens for heading and sub-heading.

What is the role of time management?

The proper time management is the key to success that’s why I put emphasis on planning ahead. You must atleast give 15 minutes to each question when your paper asks you to attempt 5 question in 3 hours.

What should be the length of answers?

Staying to the point is very good, unnecessary length will cause harm instead of benefit. In my view, it is good to write one page for 5 marks so if the question is of 20 marks, one can write fours pages and that is enough. This is how I see it.

well in my opinion unnecessary length is useless... focus on main point and explain it as required..

Reduce this time. Try to plan not more than 5 to 7 minutes per question. Brainstorming of 15 minutes for each question may hamper your net output on paper in black and white.

very nice... especially your last point... people ignore it and due to lenghty stuff they bored the examiner and at the end they get low marks...

conciseness and completness is one of the major cause of scoring good....

Don't write for the sake of length; write because you have something relevant and worth writing. Don't irritate the reader by writing irrelevant stuff. There is no limit of minimum or maximum pages but surely there are two killing limits i.e. 1) Time limit for overall paper and 2) Time share of individual questions.
You do not have total time more than 3 hours. You are not supposed to swallow time of other questions by consuming unnecessarily maximum time on a single question.

Start writing answer of a single question and keep writing on the same topic for 3 hours without attempting the remaining questions, you can write a book on that question but examiner won't award you more than 20 marks in that paper.

On the other hand; examiner can award you 15 marks per question (75 marks for five questions) if you justify with each question by allocating proper time and limiting your answers up to 4, 6, or maximum 8 pages.

Emergency / Contingency plan:
You are left with 10 minutes and you have still two questions to attempt.
Allocate 5 minutes per question if you know about both the questions rather replying only one question for 10 minutes. I know, you can write quality material for more than 10 minutes on each topic even though wise decision will be to shorten your answers to attempt both the questions within 10 minutes.

Suppose You decided to answer only one question fully / perfectly but not to touch 2nd question. Your answer can not fetch 20 out of 20 marks.

Contrary to this, if you attempt both the question and write half of the material on each topic, examiner can award you 10 marks each and in total you can easily win 20 marks on both the answers.

Length of my answers ranged from 4 to 6 pages and in some cases it approached to 8 pages.

need help to find online books

can anyone plz tell me about the availability of shankar rau sociology book online so i can read it frm thr?

Saad Qaisrani Saturday, October 30, 2010 05:47 PM

As for the length issue,

In three papers, Geo I & II and Forestry i accumulated more than 48 pages in all (2-3 for rough work). I guess my longest answers exceeded 14 pages while the smallest would be 7-8 pages in length. No paper except Essay, English and EDS had less than 38 total pages.

My writing is quite large. Wouldn't have penned more than 130 words per page.

My own experiment, not recommended for those who disbelieve.
