Smile A Tip For Attempting The Paper

Paper solving is itself a technical aspect. For instance, the examiner assumes your last question to be the weakest and would keep in mind your answers as in descending order as long as you solve.
Q # 1 = Best
Q # 2 = Better
Q # 3 = Good
Q # 4 = Weakest
You somehow have to change the sequence and manage your weakest question where examiner expects it the least.
Keep your weakest question at # 3.
there are many more such techniques which we actually lack.

Default tips for new aspirants

Hi to all CSS aspirants……this is really a tricky exam….let me share my experience with all new aspirants…I at first attempt cleared written exam…though it is also my last exam…coz my age is over for next attempt…

For preparations remember, first of all select optional subjects judiciously….
For study purpose, for Essay….study daily Dawn, and cut off important or burning issues articles and put together in a file…..or make a register writing down the important points of each issue…daily study of paper will make you accumulate lot of material at regular level…...at the exam times you will be able to have quick look at the points coz you won’t be able to go through the details of any topic…only remember the points…..effects, measures, suggestions of any topic can be developed at the time attempting paper

For composition…study Wrent & Martin (yellow color) book of grammer and composition…. For idioms cut off Dawn idioms on Saturday,,

For Islamiyat…..never miss Friday Dail Mashriq in addition to any available book in the market for basics such Ijmaa, caliphate, etc.

For Pak affairs… try to concentrate on the events of post partition…coz pre-partition are well known….plus Khalid Bin Sayeed book on Pakistan……

For Current affairs…..just study Dawn…plus Current Affairs monthly collection booklet of articles by Dr Safdar Mahmood……..it will give you good material for essay preparations as well…

For EDS study Emporium EDS big book………

For Indo-pak…..i prepared from SM Ikram’s ----History of Muslim Civilization….study the book thoroughly and make your own notes for exam…in DIKhan I alone qualified in written of CSS …all other Indo-pakers failed….

During Exam………important……..judiciously select questions in the paper….make points at the last page of answer sheet of selected questions…..then attempt one after another from points…….divide equal time to every question…..in attempting a question you will remember points to another questions…I mean inter related points….

Time factor is important…in addition to self confidence in attempting any question…

Default length of a question

First impression is the last impression. so try to make the most first question more comprehensive and authentic, in length it should be equal to others. remember when you will divide time equally, all questions will come in equal length...neither of your question will be considered weak ...i will tell you just my personal experience,,,i attempted 4 questions in Islamyat while they were asked 5.. but i passed while my close friend failed in Islamyat....equal time equal length....right

Yes it matters a lot but with hard work it can be covered as CSS requires hardwork n interest. You have enough time you can improve your english skills and then start peparing for CSS. You can do it if you are determined.

Focus on your own above mentioned trait and work accordingly, you will achieve brilliance as a result InshaAllah .. CSS is not about being brilliant from the scratch, its about how much you have gained at the end of it ..

And to ease you a bit, I did my matriculation about 12 years ago in 2000 .. Later had a huge gap, indulged in work and foreign stuff .. Passed my B.A last year just to appear in CSS and I had a good enough attempt at it in the recently concluded exams .. It was my first and last chance .. So, all is not lost in your case ..

Best of luck ..

Regards ..

@ idrees Khan

Expression is the most important tool now a days. Not well expressed answers lack clarity and confuse the examiners. The recent CSS exams is an example on the importance of expression. The compulsory papers were so general in nature that anyone could answer, but application of proper and related knowledge and a good expression was the key ..

Concerning your problem, there are many ways to improve one's expression. Such as:

1- Providing structured approaches to written composition such as the POWER method (Plan, Organise, Write, Edit, Revise)
2- Using key terms and phrases from subjects and texts
3- Provide model essays for different genres
4- Copying small selections from model essays - “to feel the style”
5- Structuring and organising ideas (sequencing information, introduction, middle and conclusion)

Some people argue that not having to provide a sound written expression relates to learning disability and thus mostly found in people having learning disability .. But, I disagree with this view .. Written expression is something that can be improved, by means of constant practice and wide range reading etc, where as learning disability needs psychological help .. As you say that you have different ideas and points, it means you have sound learning ability but just can't express your views.

I would also suggest you to write randomly on random topics and get them checked from a good source. And read good books other than syllabus, you'll find different ways of expression of different writers ..

I hope this will help .. Best of luck

Regards ..
