Default How to strengthen your English essay

Lets talk about English Essay, the nightmare of the majority of CSS aspirants and rightly so.

You need to have an absolute command over your written English in order to pass this subject. You need to know the proper pattern and organization of the material. You should have a sound knowledge of all the important topics in the fields of literature, education, politics, social issues and current affairs.

Allow me to clear some misconceptions regarding this subject.

Firstly, most of the aspirants think that Essay is a kind of subject like EDS for which you just need some tips and hints and it will become a walk in the park for them. The answer is, nay! English Essay is all about writing proper and grammatically correct English with strong expression and sound logic. One gets a grip over the aforementioned things through practice.

Now, the practice does not mean writing on your own and checking it yourself. Because if you do so, you will keep on repeating the same mistakes without knowing about them. Rather, it means hiring a competent English teacher and getting your essays checked by him/her on daily basis or on alternate days. I do not know how you arrange a teacher but from my point of view, this is the single most reliable way to master your written skills.

Secondly, pertaining to outline, quite a number of people will tell you to write 3 to 4 pages of outline in the beginning of the Essay. Do not fall for this trap. The examiner does not have enough time to check such a lengthy outline. Moreover, if you write such a long outline, you will eventually lose the grip over the organization of the entire material.

I say, do not prolong your outline and write not more than one and a half to 2 pages of outline. Do not make more than 6 or 7 main headings, Of course, there will be subheadings under each main heading.

Thirdly, do not write headings 'inside' the essay. I know, many people write headings inside the essay despite mentioning them in the outline as well but I will not recommend it. The reason is that you already mention the headings in your outline and the examiner can easily discern them by going through your essay. Just make simple and short paragraphs.

Lastly, write to the point. Be "relevant". Do not go too much far from the topics or heading at hand otherwise its so easy for the examiner to cut off your entire material and mark it 'irrelevant'. Believe me, they do.

The most frequent question asked by the aspirants is, "Essay kis tarah likha jata hai? English kis tra achi likhi ja skti hai?"

From my point of view, there is only one way out guys and I have also told you before: "Practice".

That is, you need to find a competent and sincere teacher. Write precise and idea expansion on daily basis and get it checked from him or her.
S/he will coach you about the format of the essay as well as the tips and tricks of the idea expansion. S/he will correct your grammatical mistakes and help you to strengthen your expression.

Furthermore, s/he will also mentor you about the proper use of vocabulary; proper word at the proper place. S/he may advise you the regarding the technique of paragraphing that from where to end and start the new paragraphs?

Do not just carry on practicing the paragraphs and essays on your own and checking them by yourself because then, you will keep on committing the same mistakes again and again and you will not realize it. At the end, you would not be able to improve your writing skills.

Moreover, get your work checked on daily basis or on alternate days. Do not delay it more than 3 or 4 days. Some people do it on monthly basis which does not work at all.
