Eligibility to Appear in CSS Examination

To apply for CSS Examination, a candidate should be a citizen of Pakistan and must hold at least a Bachelors Degree with the second division in any Faculty/Discipline. The age limit for admission in CSS Examination is 21-28 years, which is relaxable upto 2 years for those who are already in Government Service and have completed 2 years service. The relaxation is also available to candidates belonging to certain remote areas as defined by Government. A candidate can avail only three chances to appear in CSS Competitive Examination, subject to fulfillment of the above requirements.

Written Examination
The Written Examination for CSS consists of 1200 marks (600 marks for compulsory subjects and 600 marks for optional subjects). The examination is normally held during the month of October/November every year in 5 main cities of Pakistan.

Qualification marks in written Examination
The qualification marks in CSS written examination are as under:

a) Compulsory Subjects – 40% in each subjects

b) Optional Subjects – 33% in each subjects

c) Aggregate Marks – 50%

Medical and Psychological Test
The Candidates, who qualify the written examination as per criteria, have to appear for their medical Test before central Medical Board, according to the schedule prescribed by the Ministry of Health. Then the medically qualified candidates are given psychological Tests, in individual as well as in Groups, to access their aptitude and personality traits for different Groups/Services, before the Viva Voce.

Viva Voce
The viva Voce tests consists of 300 marks and minimum qualification marks are 100. No candidate is considered for appointment to any of the Group/Service for which he/she is declared “not suitable” by the Viva Voce Board. The viva voce is conducted by a larger board (mostly five members) headed by the chairman at Islamabad and at all Provincial headquarters.

Allocation of Groups/services
The qualified candidates are allocated Groups/services, keeping in view their merit, suitability report for any Group/Service, domicile of the candidate, availability of post in concerned Group/service for that domicile and the priority of the candidate given in his/her application. The seats for each Group/Service are referred to the Commission by the Establishment Division which vary in number from year to year.

salam.

I have noticed that some of our members, specially the novice have problems comprehending the procedure of CSS examination. This informations shall help them acquaint themselves with the information they need.

1 CSS examination is conducted by FPSC to select and recommend the candidates for the Scale 17 posts of centeral (means federal) superior services.
2 there are 6 subjects of compulsory subjects, namely

ENGLISH ESSAY 100 MARKS
ENGLISH COMPREHENSION 100 MARKS
PAK AFFAIRS 100 MARKS
EVERYDAY SCIENCE 100 MARKS
CURRENT AFFAIRS 100 MARKS
ISLAMIAT 100 MARKS

2 Every aspirant has to select from among the list of subjects provided by the commission, subjects of 600 marks in total. For example if you select Urdu it bears 200 marks, IR has 100 marks to its name and so on. The point is that you have to complete 600 marks in total.

3 After the written examinatio, a list of successful candidates shall be published.

4 VIVA shall, then follow. It includes Psychological test and interview. Medical test shall also be conducted.

5 A final list according to the marks obtained in all the tests shall then be published.

6 the number of seats to filled shall be announced for every department..(list of departments is available in syllabus)

7 there applies a quota system. Sindh, NWFP, Blochistan shall be given seats according to the percentage fixed in quota.

8 the remaining seats shall be taken on the open merit. The best (normally 100-120) aspirants shall be posted.

(as easy as that...! :p

Removal of Misconceptions regarding the quota of females:

We had conversation with the Chairman FPSC regarding women quota, he replied that there is no such policy as the services are not gender biased and that opined that we must not belief rumours in various news papers and should have check its relevancy from the respective department i.e. FPSC
