The exam should be postponed for some months, the rationale being the unfolding events following the assassination of Muhtrama Benazir Bhutto . The Candidates of Sindh particularly have undergone many harsh conditions. The libraries are still closed in many cities of Sindh. Many of the book shops which had been set on fire have not been re-opend for obvious reasons. The Sindhi candidates are still languishing in very upset socio-political conditions in the province.
The candidates of Punjab,Balochistan,NWFP and the Northern areas have also born the brunt of current political and law and order situation in Pakistan. They also need a good time to make a bee line for the lost time and target of their studies. So, i Support all those who vote for date extension.

Delay in Css Exams
AOA Everyone
Well i think under current circumstances the exam should be delayed because there is too much uncertainty and a bit bitterness in the atmosphere and no one except ALLAH The Almighty knows what would happen after the elections ?

THE FPSC has been established in Pakistan to select individuals on merits, particularly those who are highly talented and most suited to run the government machinery on a smooth pace, devoid of corruption and lethargy.
Last year in March, I appeared in CSS examinations held in Pakistan whereas my centre was the Public School, Sukkur.
I attempted the paper of English Composition and soon after reaching home, I took Oxford Dictionary and looked for the vocabulary given in the paper. However, I was bewildered to see that the words were not in that dictionary. Then I met my other colleagues who also complained of the same and advised me to write to the FPSC for the purpose.
It is pertinent to note that one of my friends hailing from Sukkur failed with 38 marks in English Composition. He was frustrated and depressed because it was his last attempt. As a result, he now considers himself no more important in society even though he has an excellent amount of knowledge with special regard to CSS subjects.
Another friend, who lives in Islamabad, secured a total of 757 marks while he was flunked in English Composition in which he was given only 39 marks, failing him with one mark.
He showed his mark sheet to all the students of the Quaid-iAzam University, Islamabad, and they advised him not to sit the examination again.
As the next examination of the CSS begins on March 15, the FPSC should at least give the words available in the dictionary, enabling the candidates to cope with the paper of English Composition easily. It will be in the best interest of natural justice. MIRANI RASHEED Sukkur

CSS Exam:
I DO not agree to the request made by a few candidates of CSS 2008 for postponement of the examinations. If the country is in a political turmoil, turmoils are what they would be expected to deal with. The CSS is more like a test of your nerves and your control over them rather than a test of your knowledge.
The examination date was not decided overnight, nor did the candidates decide to appear in the examination one fine morning.
There is no end or limit to the preparation for competitive examinations. Therefore, one can never say that if given a month’s time, preparation would be complete or better yet, the energy and political crisis would be over.
Furthermore, there are often in-service people who have to schedule their leave according to the date announced. And I am sure many of them would have already done so. Please do not make the political and other crisis an excuse.
Let us all stand one and against all such things. My best wishes are with all the CSS 2008 candidates. MAH-E-ARSH KHAN Kohat

I fully agree with the point made above
This is exactly my case, me in government service
as 15 march was announced as the date fro the commencement of the exam so following government procedure I sent my application for long leave of one month to the provincial govt secretariat some one month back, now my leave will be sanctioned in few days time,
now I m in a fix, if exam date is changed then I will stand no where, neither can I change the date of my leave due to short time left nor can I take any more leave for the exam
Now I can’t just understand why the candidates are demanding delay in the exam
What they think that this energy crisis will be solved, political turmoil will be over if only they get extra time of one month.
no where exams are delayed especially the kind of exams which are meant for a broader range of candidates, this is not the matriculation exam where every body studying has nothing else to do but to go to school and take the exam,
Everybody will be having a lot of other commitments other than taking this exam.
So I think a delay now especially announcing the date quite a time ago will do no good for those who think they will prepare better by using the time but it will definitely deny a chance to those candidates who are already doing jobs and now can’t do anything regarding leave
And lastly exam related anxiety is a natural phenomenon and will always be confronting the candidates even if they are given ten years time to prepare for any particular exam

CSS Exam:
WELL said Mah-e-Arsh Khan in the letter, ‘CSS exams’ (Feb 2). The date was not decided overnight nor did the candidates decide to appear in the examinations one fine morning. However, kindly inform me that are the dates for political turmoil decided? Was the date for one of our beloved leaders’ assassination decided? Was the date for upcoming election postponement decided? Was the judicial crisis that took place on Nov 3 decided? Also, was it decided that the country is on the verge of collapse no matter what steps could be taken, therefore; carry on with your normal routine jobs?
The trauma that our country is going through is not ordinary. I would like to mention my own Dec 27 horrible experience that while coming back home, my car’s windscreen and side mirrors were smashed into pieces and I could feel that for days.
I personally know those candidates who attended their leader’s funeral, and the memory of that tragic incident is still in their minds.
You are right that it is our test of nerves. However, just imagine the feelings at the hour when someone’s beloved passes away, it really is above all those nerves tests and is of severe pain.
Therefore, give a fair amount of chance to everyone, since for many of us it is our last chance. All successful candidates scheduled their last three months according to the test date, but unfortunately due to the critical circumstances, it is the need of the hour and an earnest request to the relevant authorities to postpone the examinations for at least one month. An interesting observation. Don't know why but every year the exams are about to begin, people start thinking of events that could somehow cause the exams to be delayed. Its natural I think. In my case, I wished if 2007 exams could be postponed due to incidents of 9 March. And at that time this wish seemed to be so logical and the mentality of FPSC guys so diametrically opposite.

About situation in Karachi it is not all that bad for the examination to get commenced on the date already specified but if it is imperative FPSC must look into it but as for as I think it will do no good to many!

last year when i appeared frm islamabad, i used to go daily to sector F-5 to appear in exam and i not only had to pass thru the sector G6(lal masjid area) of islamabad, but also to have a view of consitution avenue b4 reaching the exam hall....and it was in those days that the lal masjid students as well as the lawyers used to be at daggers drawn with the riots police.....i think if we are to live in this country, albeit willy-nilly, we should learn to live with all this ,,, its not going to change as well as we might wish it to!, so friends brace up for the exam in the face of this adversity, Allah be with all of you.
