there are tons of questions puzzling me
are there any pre requisites or background needed if i go for art subjects like journalism, sociology, ir etc???? cos as i think if i opt for physics i must know newton's laws of motion atleast.............................
i mean can i chose any subject i want even without background knowledge for them????
and how much time extra time is required to bring myself to the required level as a novice to such subjects???
pls seniors and respected cspz do guide me through this issue.

There are no any hard and fast rules relating to choice of a subjct for any candidate having masters in arts or science or even doc and engineer for subjct selection...thts why,40% of csps r either docs n engineers..to simplify it,whatever sbjct u r masters in,,say for example, physics,u got but only 200 marks for physics, what abt other 1000 marks,or say 400 rest for optionals..defntly u 'll b required to opt at least a couple of few subjcts more...won't they b a world diffrnt even if they r science like chemistry n geology for a mastrs in physics??
So when comes time-span n subject tastes, only there u need to go for ur way..if m a masters in physics, or say in chemistry,i wd defintly first go for easy ,common-sense, conceptual subjcts like sociology,IR, or journalism,or even publik admn, instead of voluminous, boring at times, other science subjcts...and ,yes, art subjcts also help tremendously to a science student in compulsory subjcts like current affairs(IR),essay and composition,islamiat,etc...for the language of a science paper is but scientifik n that of art of courses teaches a lot of art n thereby amalgamating ur scintific knowledge with artistic touches at least u got know how to b jack of all trades n master of none...n that is but CSS..
Well, time requiremnt per subject is but wholly dependent on u..its variable not consonant..so better u make it as per ur taste n temperamnt...no body in the world wd ever exactly tell u how much time u need to spend while preprng a subjct...

Dear Ruby....CSS, as you know is a examination system for those persons who think (and they are sure) that they would surely compete the others. They have developed their interest in some subjects since their childhood. When they get their graduation (or more) degree, they want to show that they are the best and can not only compete but also can go more steps ahead. For this purpose, they need the high professional command on their respected fields i.e their subjects.
How much would one have degrees of Masters? One, Two, Three? After that s/he would have to opt the other subjects as you have been told earlier. But here one would have to pot such subjects in which one is having basic command or at least the interest. This interest can be develop by having a bird view of Past papers.
- However, there are some subjects which don't require a proper background just a cleared-concept, Journalism (100) and Sociology (100) are amongst those.
- Some Subjects are such one, which you use to to study since your school-age. Indo-Pak history (200) is a very good example. Islamic History & Culture (200) can be one as well but it needs proper study of culture, Turkish history towards Europe, history of Baghdad, achievements of Muslims in Arts and Architectures, and impact of ISLAM on Modern world etc.
- One of Regional Languages (100) can be opted as a subject.
- Some subjects have inter-relationship in preparation, for example Pakistan Affairs(Compulsory) has with Indo-Pak history(200). International Relations (100) with European history (200)
I wish you a good luck.
Regards

Dear Ruby, I opted the Indo-Pak History keeping in mind that i am studying this history since my early childhood as Social Sciences and Mutaliya Pakistan so I used to study it as a school boy, not so much time but just few minutes.

Yes Dear these are Hell scoring, some one has misguided you that these are not scoring. Every subject is memorizing one. You have to remember the basic concept of the subject and later on the important ones. As I already mention that one should opt subjects according to interest if one is not having any interest in history, s/he should not go for it as a lot of student feel it the history subjects boring ones and when they heard even a single word they feel like . Although every subject of study makes a normal person boor but we to study them. And about memorizing and time consumption, i don't think that there is any single subject which doesn't need time to memorize and needs proper time. It's upto one's own stamina that how much one can swallow the material and in how much time. I would suggest you to start studying the history subject (if you are gonna opt it) as a novel, all you need to do is to mind the date of incidents and later on, make a critical appreciation for each subject at the end of chapter. Friendly speaking, I would suggest you to opt it if you have interest in history with current affairs. Do you??
At the end, I wish you good luck for being in the top 3 positions
Best Wishes

wel to be very true and honest, i like science subjects becausei think i dont have to memorise in them, they just go as the way things should go, i mean intuition is there in such subjects nothing goes against it...but i cant chose them because i have been out of touch for so many years with science subjects.................
so looking for the alternatives
mmmmmmmmmmmmm i'll think about chosing history........anyways....
shall we go fo r"online combine studies" with any other student here on the forum, cos discussion is very goood in such subjects??

@ Almas Ruby
You are right, and it is a fact that Arts and Humanities subjects are more scoring than Science and technical subjects. Yepp..Discussion is a good source of knowledge.
