Princess Royal:

According to the article published in Dawn the two sisters belong to Sindh Police, one of them serving as an SI and the other is ASI. However both of them are currently posted as SHO's.

This year (CSS-2008) we have 4 female officers in PSP (37th CTP). 1 each from Sindh & Punjab and interestingly, 2 from NWFP.

The trend shows that the number is increasing every year.

Motivated girls should study about Dr. Kiran Bedi (Book: 'I Dare') of Indian Police Service (IPS) who had a termendous career in a society where a woman's journey to such level in Police is more than an exception.

aoa gurl!
hope ma post findz u in the finest of mood n spirit.

i c that all the nitty gritties r already discussed in due context but i still wud like to spare maself a lil space to pour in ma point ov view.

as u know that there iz no group restriction for women in css and 10 percent quota is also set reserved for em.. but still being a sensible woman wen u weigh all the pros n cons ov each group u come out wid the conclusion that certain groups like PSP, FSP etc r not all that gud for women.

yes the inspirin stories like kiran bedi `s r there but still she iz one in a million.

um not a conservative mind.. um one ov those women who compete eye to eye wid men and have the guts to race shuolder to shuolder wid em.. but still being a woman..being a lady naturally associates certain respopnsibilities and niceties wid u.

in 20 s most ov the gurlz..no matter how forward lookin n brave they r get married.. they have natural intincts and cravings for a comfy home a lil family and they automatically assume a carin role, as a cooperative wife, a luvin mother, an obedient daughter-in-law and so on...

now for instance if u r in FSP..u r muvin form here to there draggin ur spouse along, puttin ur children form one skul to another and disturbin ur entire in laws set-up and ur homy set up as well. similarly one can well think and imagine bout psp.

on the other hande if u go for more "gurl-freindly" groups like omg, customs etc u get alota pressure off. it will not only bring solace to ur management of both job and home but a peaceful and comfortable mind will be ov betta service to the homeland as well.

in the end i wud like to share one personal thing wid u ...
i have been very darin and gutsy throughout.. winnin declammations, fightin elections, performin arts, working for DAwn, anchorin for Radio and so on... have got out frm the most modern institutes ov pakistan, am forward lookin and well supported by ma family for each independent decision ov mine... but still the brave outlook posses a heart that prays for a peaceful family set up, a comfy home where i can cook for the family and have time to decorate ma home.. aLONG WID DA SINCERE WISH for a brilliant career as well.. but such a one which i can manage easily..

ye na ho k mein baghtay baghtay nidhal ho jaon
jb murr k dekhon tou dor tlk mjy mera ghr nzr na aye..
mein apni khudi ki talash mein sr gardan rahun
pr jb thk k bethna chaho tou rah mein koi sjr na aye..

PS: all the statements given above r to b taken as PERSONAL opinion of ambrosial eloquence and shuld not b taken int he context ov presuadin for or creatin ill will against any group. i xpressed maself cuz article ninteen ov the constitution allows me to do so.

feamanallah

regardz

the women were recruited in lower cadre and had been promoted/posted as S.H.O in different stations in nawabshah and hyderabad in sindh. they did not belong to P.S.P.

@ skywatcher:

if other women can join police, you can also do it. belonging to P.S.P, you'll be a police officer, which i believe is much better than your working in Information Group. i believe, your service group will be an additional qualification when you look forward to marriage.

Default Thanks all of you

thanks everyone for information...really helpful

@ Ambrosial Eloquence
Thank you for detail answer....I got ur point of view...this is fact that today or tomorrow a girl has to get marry and we dont know what kind of guy we get...is he supportive or not...etc etc...I am just confused a bit regarding what group I need to go for..because I have to set a target...
Is military group same as Police?? I mean all of cons are same whether positive or negative?

@ Adil Memon
I think u r also a Sindhi? If yes, then you know very well how sindhi families are regarding girl's career. I dont know if joining police or military will be a right decision for me (because I belong to Larkana). But Like I said, I need to set my target before the exam so that I can achieve it instead of getting into confusion.

Thanks once again to each and all of you for your help

Regards

skywatcher,

well, you're right. i'm from hyderabad, sindh. and i do understand the concerns of parents regarding their daughters' careers. while the discretion to choose a service group rests with you and your parents, i'd just convey my opinion on your concerns regarding p.s.p.

firstly, conservative parents must have the same apprehensions whether their daughter joins p.s.p or any other service like paas, omg, information etc. there are males everywhere. but some how, p.s.p. seems to be singled out by them to face the contempt because it's untraditional (but not unethical) for women to join p.s.p.

secondly, i agree with amna ji's observations that p.s.p is a demanding job. but then, the requirements of the service are not always uniform. you can be posted in less demanding places like cpo, traffic, prisons etc. being a female, you will be facilitated.

thirdly, p.s.p is a very respectable cadre. you will become a strength of your family. lately, women have been turning towards p.s.p. every year, 3-4 females join it. this year, ms. irum awan, from sindh (rural) - i don't know for sure, but she may be from your neighbour hood - has also opted for p.s.p. so your home district larkana is not a necessary obstacle for opting p.s.p.

fourthly, if your husband is uncomfortable with your job in p.s.p, he'll have problems with your job in any other service as well. if you are a police officer, your prospective husband will have to accept you for what you are. and i am quite hopeful that you'll see a good turnout in proposals.

you may also want to read about "Helena Saeed Iqbal" on www.google.com.pk

regards,

PS: on a lighter note, i noticed the fellows speaking out against p.s.p.

Adil Bhai thank you for your suggestion I totally understand what you are trying to say. There is no doubt that nowadays girls from Sindh are going forward with their career which is a good thing.
You are from PSP group, so you can suggest better

Once again thank you very much for your advice

marriam,

maria mehmood, p.s.p, 35th ctp has already made it through the NPA. if she can do it, others can do it too. she lives in islamabad and accordingly has been posted as ASP-UT kohsar. that's the privilege for girls.

regarding married women, they are most welcome.

regards,
