the group was created from foreign service of pakistan in 1972 as a specialised group in freign trade.
its the youngest amongst the civil services occupational group; thus a small bt steadily growing one.
short foreign visits r frequent.
50 % quota for foreign postings but due to small number of officers, still a large number of seats r vacant.
one is eligible to foreign postig as commercial councillor after gettin promotion in 18.
Maximum number of C&T officers hold foreign degrees and here it surpasses all other occupational groups.
Foreign studies scholarship r availabe in abundace.
A research wing has bn established at Trade n development institute Islamabad- formerly known as Foreign trade institute, where stp is conducted- n officers r encouraged to join research projects n r paid Rs.20,000 to 45,000 as research allowance.
C&T has the honor of establishin the first official THINK-TANk at Trade n Development institute.

no group has negatives as such.negatives r proportionate to one's apptitude.
still, C&T is a highly competitive group. one wanna survive, one has to be highly competitive n consistent.
The clintel, as u mentioned the elite, is educated n one has to earn respect by provin one's worth...
It doesnt let anyone be stagnat n if one insists,it is nt a good group for him.
Its not abt enjoyin the free lunches as may ppl THINK in groups with power...here if u work,u earn respect.u ve to prove ur worth everyday.
it doesnt have nuisance value like PSP or DMG... so not a good place for those who join civil service wid power perspective.

Regards.

A.A...
sir in one of ur posts..u have said tht it takes 2 years for CTG officers to get promoted in 18... but i have heard tht promotion time for this is same as other groups...

secondly...posts in foreign missions are open for many groups n private sector...so what the edge of CTG over those groups...

thirldy...if this group is axed under reforms..then where will these officers be adjusted...n in which capacity does a new officer of CTG on provincial deputation work...

thx

2-3 years after FPOE. and if u include training tym, it becomes 4-5 year.cause training lasts for almost 2 years.32nd commoners C&T officers ve been promoted to 18 n that makes a total of 4 years including training...2 years for training n 2 years service.

C&T has a fixed 50% quota where private sector doesnt have. yes, someone may not c any advantage in C&t. but the advantage one may have is that C&T stp is all about wat is necessary for commercial councillor exam. as I said earlier, the problem wid C&T is not short of posts but short of officers.

bureaucracy is an organized institution.deptt are not axed everyday,in case of any reforms, the officers will certainly be adjusted. where, you can be as good in speculating as myself.I cant say anything wid certainity.

depends where he is deputed.

and...There r things in life that we learn by walking the path....
