Post Group Preferences

Hi Everyone!

I'm a beginner & need your help regarding proper group selection. I'm aiming to appear in CSS 2011. Have to fill the form, so need guidance in this regard. Kindly tell me how I prioritize the groups/services as I don't have a clear idea about merits n demerits of each group & suitability for a candidate.

According to my personal interest & intentions, I've prioritized the services in the following manner:

1) Foreign Service of Pakistan.
2) Inland Revenue Service.
3) Office Management Group.

Now, please give your suggestions regarding these 03 groups and other groups also.

Thanks!

Regards,
Saima

Being a girl, you must also consider 'Commerce & Trade Group'. It is more specialized, has more training opportunities, postings abroad, and you get to move around in big cities.

I think your preferences should go like DMG,FSP,PCG,IRS,PAAS,OMG,CTG

FSP is a wonderful group but it needs a specific type of a person...moreover the people who have big family set up here in pak cannot move smoothly along FSP but in terms of quality of life FSP is the best group. as far as DMG is concerned you can get almost everything in this single group and being a female your 1st preference must be DMG because females are given postings in major cities..you can come to secreteriate if you dont want to do field work..promotion is fastest...scholarships are highest in DMG...lobby is strongest in DMG, old DMG officers do own junior DMG officers.
OMG has tough time in 17th n 18th grade as SO but once they reach 19 they become almost the same like DMG but they never enjoy the authority of field like in DMG..promotion isnt that fast...there are a lot of departmental officers in que of promotion with OMG officers which causes irritation to OMG officers.
IRS' future appears to be bright as IMF n WB have been pressing the pak govt hard for giving enforcement powers to IRS to enhance the tax revenue n to improve tax to GDP ration...so we might see improvement in IRS.....
I hope my answers are enough, if you need further information then plz ask a specific question....

@Gul Niazi
Generally DMG, PSP and FSP are regarded as top three groups in civil service while their preference order vary person to person. So my suggestion is to select these three as ur first three preferences according to your taste. Then IRS is much better than Customs presently. Place Customs after it then MLCG, PAAS, OMG and Commmerce and Trade respectively.

FSP is good if you don't have restrictions from the family side and if you can sacrifice your family life because you will be posted around away from the family. i have FSP on top as well, so pray for me

Sir Thanks a lot for the useful post!

What's your idea about Information group? If OMG officers usually have a tough time in their service, then I'll skip it. What do U say??

I dont understand why so many females prefer FSP? When they give preference to FSP, do they realise that more than half of their lives will have to be spent outside Pakistan and their husbands may not like to tag along with them?

In my opinion, preference (for females) should be:

DMG (District Management Group)
IRS (Inland Revenue Service)
PCS (Pakistan Customs Service)
PAAS (Pakistan Audit & Accounts Service)
Ralways
Postal Group
PSP
MLCG
Commerce & Trade
OMG
Information
FSP

Preference (for males) should be:

DMG (District Management Group)
PSP
IRS (Inland Revenue Service)
PCS (Pakistan Customs Service)
PAAS (Pakistan Audit & Accounts Service)
Ralways
MLCG
Postal Group
Commerce & Trade
OMG
Information
FSP (FSP can be second or third if the person has an aptitude for it)

In the end it all boils to personal aptitude and choice which is the foremost thing anyway.
