PAS Vs FSP

Which cadre is best, PAS or FSP ? Serving CSPs please draw a picture of life of a FSP officer now a days

I think there might be seniors who can answer but in my point of view the difference between the PSP and fsp is that PSP have the power, athority, and social respect they the vehicle and house but in big cities you have to arrange the house with your own self but in fsp they have to go to foreign countries and fully furnitured appartment and while you are in foreign country they will pay you high and the two sons/daughter their college/school expensives are on govt so I myself love fsp rather than PSP. PSP is also the top three priority of the candidates but depends upon you that what you wanna select what do you like more power, athority/ forieng tours, and spend luxurious life and at last they of both fsp and PSP in :bowPakistan is same but in forieng countries the fsp is leading in salary.
Wish you a best of luck and don't me in your precious prayers...

FSP is way way better than PAS

Benefits of PAS:
1. POWER. 2. Social Recognition

Benefits of FSP:
1.3,000 $ Salary
2. Red Passport
3. Travelling around the world
4. No pressures
5. Peaceful life
6. No need to be in good books of politicians
7. Personal growth
8. No threats
9. No issues of inquiries/ suspensions
10. No hard areas (except a few in 92 missions)
11. Alot of savings legally
PROBLEMS OF FSP:
1. No power 2. Eventually U get cut off from relatives in Pak

wonderful sketch....
80 % A agree with you as I have sound knowledge of Foreign Service.

PAS is much much much better than FSP. Ask any FSP officer. I have many FSP friends, They are re-appearing and many have taken CSS-2016 attempt to change the group. However, ultimately, it is once choice, individual choice also matters. We have many examples that all pakistan toppers have selected FSP in past.

But in majority's opinion, PAS is thousands times better than FSP.

you may work tension free in PAS, and also need not to be in good books of anyone if you don't want to be appointed in coveted positions.

There is also personal growth, one can remain with relatives and family and also get their genuine issues resolved in PAS which is not the case in FSP. Once can be appointed to many positions where salary is quite high as Registrar or directors in Supreme court, high courts. where salary of grade 18-19 officer easily cross 2 lacs.

to visit countries are different from bounded living for 5 years in particular country. Most of the time foreign country to us mean Europe and America. but FSP are serving in Africa, and LAtin america and backward countries like Nigeria and Somalia.

I respect your viewpoint but logically how is PAS better than FSP??
1. What is the benefit of choosing PAS if one does not want field postings or coveted postings?
2. Yes one can resolve issues of family in PAS but usually people dont have such issues that are resolved only through PAS. If one has alot of property or political background, or rivalry in rural background then PAS serves u best.
3. Family life and life with relatives and friends is disturbed in PAS as one never serves in his district. In addition, one does not get casual leaves since it is 24/7 job and u cant leave your tehsil.
4. 2 lacs salary in some positions in grade 19 is nothing as compared to 3000 $ abroad in grade 17. ( one can live a very comfortable life in 1500 $ abroad with free accomodation and education)
5. Yes, people get stuck in Africa for 3 years but again U LIVE IN CAPITALS AND CAPITALS ARE BEAUTIFUL and DEVELOPED EVERYWHERE. Its better to be posted in Nairobi, Kenya for 3 years as compared to Thar or Wana Fata etc.
6. People keep changing countries after 3 years in FSP but in PAS u keep changing stations even after 6 months, so you get more disturbed.
And last but not the least on a lighter note as you mentioned a comment from Milton's epic
To rule in hell is better than serving in heaven.
Hell is hell, it means depression and torture and nobody wishes to go to hell. Heaven is heaven, it means peace and comfort.

PAS is a favorite group for Elite and Upper class people, while FSP is favorite for middle and below middle class peoples,

nathanalgren Saturday, September 24, 2016 12:26 AM

Elite ( except a few) is not interested in CSS because THEY DONT WANT TO WORK FOR SUCH MEAGRE SALARIES.
If u see the list of top 40 candidates every year, FSP is the no 1 choice of Elite or Upper Middle class who have more exposure of the world, so, they smartly choose FSP due to its perks and good salary.
Majority of the lower middle class people choose PAS since experience colonial mentality of our society and because they have very little idea of the exposure FSP provides.

This is very clear picture portrayed by you about FSP, if one gets his family with their-selves then its not bad with free accommodation and educating your kids internationally. It happens only if you are damn sure that you are not going anywhere in 3 years otherwise academics will be disturbed and hence the kids.

3000 USD is nothing to live a healthy life around the world for 30 days.

nathanalgren Saturday, September 24, 2016 09:04 AM

Its a misperception that 3000 $ is nothing. Its is more than enough since accomodation is free, education and health is free and u dont pay taxes. A quality jeans shirt cost 30 Euro in EU and 3000 Rs in Pak. So, 3000 is alot.

Family moves with a diplomat in whichever country he is posted but in PAS, many officers serve at 1 station while family stays at a different city so there are more hassles.

2ndly how can one manage legally in 45,000 Rs in PAS in Pak? In summer electricity bills cost minimum 15000.

The education of kids is disturbed after every 3 years in FSP but in PAS, you get posted from one station to another even after 6 months, hence therez more disturbance for kids.
