[B]1 What is Office Management Group (OMG) and Who administers the Group ? [/B]

[B]Ans:[/B] OMG is one of the Occupational Groups of the Civil Services of the Government of Pakistan. The officers of the group are designated as Section Officers (BS-17 & 18) and Establishment Division administers the group.

[B]2 How many posts are to be reserved for appointment on deputation on tenure basis or by transfer by officers in BS-17 & BS-18 from other Occupational Cadres ? [/B]

[B]Ans: [/B]10% of the duty posts of the Section Officers are reserved for the purpose.

[B] 3 What is the method of recruitment into Office Management Group? [/B]

[B]Ans: [/B]Three modes of recruitment in OMG :-[INDENT] i) By promotion (through promotional examination conducted by FPSC).
ii) By Transfer for other Services/Groups.
iii) Direct recruitment through CSS.

4 What is the procedure for promotion of Section Officers from BS-17 to BS-18? [/B]

[B]Ans: [/B]A Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) recommends promotion to competent authority as per prescribed manner. Establishment Secretary is the appointing authority.

[B]5 What is the criteria of promotion of Section Officers from BS-17 to BS-18 ? [/B]

[B]Ans: [/B]Promotion to Grade 18 is done from amongst Section Officers of Grade-17 who have :-[INDENT] a) At least 5 years of service in this Grade-17.
b) Successfully completed probation period in BS-17 and no disciplinary proceedings are pending against them.
[/INDENT][B]6. What is the criteria of recruitment of Section Officers through Promotional Examinations ? [/B][INDENT] a) FPSC conducts the promotional examination for vacancies reserved for promotion.
b) Examination consists of written (300 marks) & Viva Voce (100 marks).
c) Eligibility criteria :-
[/INDENT][INDENT][INDENT] All officials/officers (from BS-11 to BS-16) of Federal Secretariat and attached departments, President’s Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Senate Secretariat, National Assembly Secretariat, Wafaqi Mohtasib’s Secretariat, Federal Service Tribunal, Federal Public Service Commission and Intelligence Bureau, having 08 years experience in BS-11 to BS-16 can compete in this examination.

[B]Ans:[/B] Normal tenure of deputation is 03 years, which can be extended for another two years.

[B]8.What is the criteria for appointment by transfer/induction of Section Officers in Office Management Group ? [/B]

[B]Ans: [/B]Appointment by transfer (Induction) in the Office Management Group is made on seniority maintained on the basis of length of stay of the deputationists in the Secretariat. NOC from the parent department of the officer and consent of the officers is also required, provided the officer has reasonably good record of service including complete record of the ACRs.

[B]9.What type of officers are taken as Section Officers under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973 ? [/B]

[B]Ans:[/B] Officers belonging to Occupational Groups, Services Cadres are taken in the Group.

[B]10. Who are taken on deputation as Section Officers ? [/B]

[B]Ans:[/B] Officer belonging to Provincial Governments/AJK Autonomous Bodies/Corporations are taken on deputation.

[B]11. Can the OMG Officers go on deputation with Provincial Government/ex-cadre posts etc. ?[/B]

[B]Ans:[/B]They can go on deputation with Provincial Governments/Ex-cadre posts for three years extendable for another 2 years.

There are many misconceptions about this group.In the hindsight,I would say that this group should be 6th,7th on the candidates'preference list.It offers excellent options for horizontal mobility.OMG people can be posted on a variety of posts ranging from Section Officer,Assistant Director of a department to section officer/under-secretary in a Pakistani mission abroad.Promotion prospects are much better than majority of service groups.I would say even better than DMG and far better than PSP,FSP,PCS etc..If one has the desire to function at the key posts such as provincial and federal secretary, OMG offers a strong enough chance to be considered seriously.

My dear Hamza please don't misguide the students. OMG is a good group but it has no match with DMG, PSP and FSP. As far as promotions are concerned, OMG has no match with DMG. DMG is the king of all the service groups.
Had I been an aspirant today, I would have even preferred PMS over OMG.

Being an insider I know what I am talking about.I never said prefer it over DMG or PSP,I just said that it should be considered at 6th or 7th on candidates' preferences.

Dear Friends.

I need some information about deputation in OMG . I am working as Assistant Director BS-17 in Federal Government Ministry.
Can I join OMG on deputation . IF yes .. what is the procedure???

Can any body tell me what is the total service of a CSS officer inducted in BPS-17.and secondly after how many years retirement starts to happen meaning after 10,15,20,25 years of service.

what is the difference between OMG and DMG ANd they both lie in which group?

Both are separate groups one is Office Management Group and the other is District Management Group now renamed as Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS). OMG is a desk job whereas DMG/PAS is a field service specially in the initial stages. Secondly, OMG is based in Federal Secretariat and DMG is across the country.

Dear, whether theses rules / practices are still intact for induction in OMG through transfer posting etc. Moreover can u plz guide me on the issue regarding induction of civilian officers of Ministry of Defence serving in GHQ etc into civil service groups or OMG. whether they'll be subject to Army personnel quota or civilian personnel quota???
