I'll repeat that these views were not mine and were expressed by an officer who has had field postings all his life and is about to become an IG soon. So I think he clearly understands the power dynamics and challenges that this job has to offer.
I had DMG as my first preference so I wouldn't consider getting a Khudde Line job in PSP just so I am a PSP officer and enjoy my free time too. I think its all about our priorities and temperament and some of us are more comfortable working in conditions other than PSP has offer. PSP is an exception and the rest of the groups have more or less well defined work timings. I never came across anyone going for CSS so that they can find a job just because of prolonged working hours and more adventure, its more about the honor and respect. I was more impressed by versatile job nature of DMG and further educational opportunities so it wasn't totally about shying away from over-time Simple fact is that some of us are PSP fans while the rest choose other trades for personal reasons. So choosing a group other than PSP doesn't really defeat the purpose of joining Civil Services. The points I listed are more of an honest and practical assessment of the job. So you might disagree with some like effect on personal life but I think you will be a better judge of it all when you have worked in the force for atleast 25 years. Our country needs all of the groups to work in consonance with each other. DMG and Police are the ones who really interact with the people at many levels so I think this debate shouldn't be seen as a competition between the two. The purpose of it all is to enlighten the aspiring candidates about the pros and cons of each and every group and some might be unwilling to see cons as negative which is entirely a matter of personal choice. I admire your spirit of duty and sacrifice and I think these qualities will be essential for your job as a Police Officer. Good Luck! |

you are right, a meeting with an experienced officer can practically guide us better than listening the tales indirectly. truly someone said, meeting of moments with a scholar is far more better than study of months and years.

Dmg - a dying group in punjab
@ all
That’s true for Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa but it is not all that rosy in Punjab and Sindh. DMGs in Punjab and Sindh are initially posted as DDO (R), where they have to compete with their PMS counterparts. It takes at least 12 years for a DMG officer to be posted as DCO in Punjab and Sindh whereas in KP and Baluchistan, they are designated as DCOs and DCs respectively for just after 5 years of service. That’s not all, even the seats that were preciously entitled for DMGs will now be given to PMS officers because Mian Shahbaz Sharif has written to the Prime Minister to abolish 1993’s seat sharing formula. Unfortunately, DMGs have no future as far as Punjab and Sindh are concerned. Anwartheravian is quite right when he says that in Punjab, PSP rules at least at the initial level.
