You are right in your assessment of two groups and hence it remains your decision to choose what you want to do.. Let me still elaborate further to clarify your concerns.
In MLCG, right from day 1 You get a car and a house with certain servants as well. Same goes for PAS as well, but still there are stations in PAS, where you couldn't expect to get an accommodation in grade 17, such as provincial capitals.
But the thing is, in MLCG you cannot expect to get beyond grade 21, no matter how competent or able you are, because there is only one DG of MLCG, which happens to be a Major General from the Military. On the contrary, your chances of making it to grade 22 in PAS are pretty probable if you are able and competent. Similarly, in MLCG you would be spending your entire career in one department, while in PAS, your horizontal mobility is matchless. You could go to any department with great ease. Similarly, the decision making authority that you have in PAS is something you would crave for in MLCG.
N Yes, in MLCG you get to spend time with your family and the job is not as demanding as that of a PAS officers. There also happens to be negligible political interference. So,lik I said, The Decision is YOURS..

My analysis
Seniors , ctpz please comment

My father is a retired CSP and he served in DMG. However, his got allocated in DMG during his second attempt. In his first attempt, he got allocated in Cantonment and served in Cantonment as CEO.

Well, depends upon your nature.

If you want routine peaceful job, are introvert type, can be satisfied by reaching Grade 20, and want to enjoy facilities from day 1, then Cantonment is the place for you. Suited for married girls. My wife, if pursues CSS 2014 would be putting it on top. Even it is my 3rd priority in CSS 2013. The scope of Cantonment is limited to Cantt only but the beauty is that there is no political influence.

On the contrary, if you want to have power, promotions, matchless diversity and mobility, and can sacrifice your family time at times, then nothing better than PAS. Remember, PAS, former DMG, is considered by many as the actual Civil Service, branched from the legacy of British Raj. Means ziada tarr log inhay Afsar Sahib kehtay hain. It was my 1st priority in 2012 and would be by top priority in 2013. Suited if you are extrovert type and do not have much family commitments. However, the political interference is there and it is not recommended for those who just want to come to office, sign files and go back.

Well, primarily for the wish of my grandfather and his personal desires of socialization amongst masses. He was otherwise very satisfied with Cantonment as a service and still cherishes his time in MLCG.

It was 3rd priority of my sister as well who got Customs, her first priority in her first attempt. Her 2nd was PAS, then DMG

I personally placed Cantonment above PAAS & OMG this time around but as luck would have it, there is only 1 seat in Punjab so with this merit, I think its OMG for me this time around. So in my 2nd (and apparently last) attempt of 2013, I have placed Cantonment on 3rd while PAS would remain my top priority
