Points of Corruption in Customs determined in todays Programe “Aaj Kamran Khan Ke Saath”

- Corruption worth One Billion DOLLARS done through Under invoicing by Customs
- Total Rs. 500 Billion of corruption in FBR in ONE fiscal year
- Under invoicing, Mis Statements, Export Rebates,
- Policies of Customs are made very liberal and can be mould by Custom officers for corruption purposes

- Afghanistan Transit trade- A hub of corrupt activities of customs

I already said this TECHNICAL corruption raised by Kamran Khan is un detectable because of anti corruption agencies as FIA, NAB and few other don’t have technical knowledge to catch corruption of customs through techniques like under invoicing or export rebates etc. The example I gave about the Custom Grade 18 officer who invited French interior designers to come Pakistan to decorate his new home was reflect of great corruption and waste of money from corrupt officers. Not all officers in Customs are corrupt. Please participate and come with solution to control corruption in Customs and IRS.

Thumbs up Life or corruption

Im surprised that a discussion on "life" of a customs officer has been turned into a discussion about controlling corruption in federal departments. As for corruption, i can only say that its a coin with two sides its the public in the service who takes it and its the public who gives it. it all of us and not just servicemen.

As this forum is for advice and entrants, i suggest we stick to positive aspects and enlightenment rather than bickering and sulking all the time.
The life of a customs officer is by all means very exciting and challenging. While in the Collectorates there is no bar of office timings as you can be called to office anytime to perform your duties esp. in areas like passenger traffic at airports, exports, etc. The variation in trade and goods being imported and exported add to the experience of having knowledge of various products, materials, stuff and movement of goods.

something is always happening at the national of international fora and those changes directly affect your work, for example, what i experienced my self was the changes at Wagha border after our agreement with india.

Cars and accomodation is not a problem and ur staff is quiet submissive but tricky at the same time. Job is risky and demanding and thats the fun of it. Seniors are very friendly and u can speak candidly with even ur Collectors.

So overall its a hell of a service which just needs some repair work for afew years and will do fine even without sales tax.

The reason behind corruption is the system which allow people to do corruption. If you are given good salary and other facilities, there is less likely chance of corruption. If you are paid 25,000 per month, what else you can expect from BS-17 grade officer.
