@ ihs, A.J, Zain-ul-Abidin, and any other people who can help

Eid Mubarak to everybody, I'm new to this forum so AoA to everybody. I posted a message as a starter on another thread in this discussion forum about a week ago but no one replied, since this thread is relevant to the same topic i hope somebody could help. Here goes:

A o A,

First off I would like to say good luck and best wishes to all the CSS aspirants, officers, and officers-in-training, may Allah give you success in serving the great country called Pakistan.

I am relatively new to the civil services and the CSS entry examination having lived a substantial part of my childhood abroad. Recently my family brought up this option and i'm thinking about trying my luck sometime in the future.

Although I know many of you might be tired of answering the same old questions again and again, I just wanted to know your thoughts regarding a fair comparison between a lucrative corporate job as a manager in the private sector, and becoming an officer in the civil service. Yes, I know that civil servants don't get paid that well, but have a lot of perks, but what are their prospects in the long run?

Secondly, I've always been intrigued by the armed forces, and law enforcement agencies in general, uniformed jobs have always held a certain charisma for me. There are detailed posts/threads regarding the perks, day-to-day life, promotion ladder, and facilities given to officers of the DMG, FSP, Customs and Excise, and others, yet I haven't come across any detailed post on facilities, perks, day-to-day life, and promotions of the PSP, and what kind of life an officer in the PSP leads. Could anybody advise? Also, the feeling I got after reading some threads here is that for some reason the PSP is treated as something of a separate body from the remaining civil service departments, is this true?

Some people (even some posts i came across in this forum) say working for the PSP as a CSS officer is not as good as working for other departments as it is an extremely demanding job, is this true? I hope somebody would be kind enough to englighten me on these topics.

Thank you to everybody; best wishes and prayers and once again, Eid Mubarak

@maxim welcome 2 forum

as far as the first part of ur question, read " what is so inspiring in css" under the main heading of " css compoetitive examination"

2. psp ve lot of facilities like vehicle, house, etc like other deptt of css. their promotions r as follows:

asp, sp, ssp, d.i.g, addl. i.g, IG. normally their promotions r as quick as that of other deptts of css except DMG. ( DMG has the fastest promotion structure e.g., a few months back, PSP officers of 28 and 29th common were promoted to grade 19 while DMG officers of 29,30 and even 31st common were promoted to 19 grade)

3. if u ve got the image that PSP is something else, it is not true. the reason of PSP being at the top after devolution plan is that PSP officers ve "danda or the power on the road" more than other services. previously, DMG had the same position

4. u feel that PSP is extremely demanding, yes u r right. The day of PSP officers start from 9 am to 20 am. xtremely hectic, full of pressures and unseen problems. now it is upto person's approach. some take it as a difficult task while others take it as an adventure, challange and enjoy it.... so it is ur approach

i hope u ll find sufficient material 4 ur satisfaction

Dear Maxim.
Mr Ihs rightly said PSP has become top choice among candidates after devolution plan becuz of their absolute descretionary powers at DISTRICT LEVEL. Before devolution DMG used to control the police but now things have reversed. District Police Officers have got no checks no balances There is no one who can enquire them except their own conscience. Under new system Police Officers were suppose to work under District Nazim and and Nazim was authorized to write the ACRs of DPO's.(The only check at district level) but If you study the latest amended Police Order then it's Second Scedule consisting of ACR Sample has been crossed/abrogated. As for as departmental checks are concerned, all CSPs are in the same boat.
As for as previledges are concerned everybody knows...Salary of BS-17. A mini Land Cruiser with blue emergency light. a small banglow etc. But Job is very voletile. Decision making very tough. Dismissal( as of IG Islamabad in Lawyers case), Prosecution ( As in judges Case Sialkot) (Hijacking Case of Nawaz Sharif) are usual things...
