the merit for psp fluctuates every year. my city fellow(punjab) got 51th position overall in 2010 exams of css,but he was given psp department according to his 1st preference.so it doesnt matter of merit, but on the taste of candidates to give preferences.

Bro. I have heard from many people who are saying that FIA jobs are good because it deals with the financial crimes and is very soft job as compared to PSP jobs because you have to deal with the corrupt people and not the criminals people and domestic problems issues... I mean that the area of business of FIA officers is much better as compared to the PSPs...

What I heard, Is this true... ? : )
Yes thats true but if someone joins PSP for soft jobs then he shouldnt have joined PSP....FIA is an investigation agency, its NOT police, moreover FIA is not exclusive for PSPs...there are OMG,DMG and some other officers who come on deputations...but as far as nature of job is concerned yes FIA is much lighter in nature than normal policing

Thats what I have written in my previous post but I used the words "TO CONFIRM" PSP/DMG one should be in top 25-30

Sitting on merit number 51 is not confirmed in police coz u yourself have mentioned that number of seats fluctuates every year, like for CSS-2011 there would b 15 PSP seats and for CSS-2012 PSP seats would be around 24 but despite of this fact there are always minimum of atleast 12-15 PSP seats every year.

In CSS-2008 last PSP allocated was merit num 56, he was lucky to be allocated to PSP like your friend in CSS-2010 and he is also the last allocated candidate from punjab in PSP....he got PSP because there were too many qualifiers from KPK in top 50 n moreover more people had DMG as their first preference in top 50 and some even had FSP as their 1st preference.

Therefore to CONFIRM one's place in PSP/DMG one must be in top 25-30, ahead is chance depending on number of other factors

@Nadeem bhai

PSP is my 1st preference but I am being repeatedly told by family (who are bureaucrats too) to avoid it as almost everyone in PSP has to face undue pressure and humiliation especially from politicians and media people and almost every other person with influence. I am also being told that you will get suspended at least once no matter what. What are your views?

Well...facing misbehavior is nothing to do with PSP only...both DMG n PSP face this problem, it depends on you that what reputation you develop of yours...like some officers prefer good postings over self respect while others prefer otherwise. Do not drop PSP just thinking about getting suspended or facing misbehavior..it varies from person to person NOT on Occupational Group. For example Zulfiqar Mirza misbehaved with DCOs n Police officers but no one retaliated but in case of "Auriya Maqbool Jan: a DMG officer" replied "you shut up" to current CM punjab once...infront of media persons!!! so its the person who matters NOT the service.

PSP/DMG both are good services, if u dun care for family life, like working 24 hour a day, easy with using abusive language, have serious rural background, then you can go for PSP coz its an aptitude service and above mentioned ingredients are few of alot required.

I think addressed your Q...if not you can ask further...

Thanks for the reply! My main motivation behind PSP is not the police itself but FIA. That is my main target. I have relatives in my family who are/were in FIA and I am impressed by their lifestyle. Less than 10 hours daily work timings combined with respect and authority everywhere. Not to mention ministers and politicians calling and begging for favors. Yes I have seen them transferred overnight from Economic Crime Wing to Academy too but still it seems alot better than Police

Well as a matter of fact FIA is ruled by both PSPs n DMGs...yes DG (FIA) is always from PSP but in other posts of FIA both PSP n DMG enjoy postings...even some administrative postings held by OMG...n FIA's most of the admin issues are held by Deputy Sectt ( Interior)[cases initiated by SO,meaningful comments made by DS & JS n final decisions taken by AS or Sectt Interior depending on nature of the case]

But yes i agree FIA is quite an interesting job...especially Economic Crime & Immigrations sections are v interesting to work in, bt i think DMG/PSP offivers should go in FIA in BPS-19 n above

@ nadem

After reading this thread in detail, I must ask you one question only.

Based on your GROUNG EXPERIENCE, do you think that a person with a sound career in private sector and earning six digit salary should come towards civil service? Be it PSP, DMG or any other group.

I'll recommend such guy to get settled abroad as a first option but if the person is like me and he cannot live outside Pakistan, and he opts to live in Pakistan then he must atleast attempt CSS atleast once, coz to live in Pakistan one has to have someone in civil servive from his/her family,if he already has someone in Civil Service, then no need to join...if he doesnt have anyone then he should go for CSS...n remember! if such guy joins PSP then it would be a "occupational suicide"

PS:By the Way I am a Canadian Immigration holder n coz of itmy wife n my kids have got canadian nationality bt i cannt live outside Pak...Moreover b 4 joining civil service I was an Electrical Engineer...
