Default PSP Ranks

The following are ranks of Police Service of Pakistan :-

1. IGP BS-22 eq. to Lt. General
2. Additional IGP BS-21 eq to Major-General
3. DIG BS-20 eq to Brigadier
4. SSP/AIG BS-19 equaivalent to Colonel
5.SP with 14 years service bs-18 eq to Lt.colonel
6.Sp with 6 to 13 years service bs-18 equivalent to Major
5. ASP Bs-17 eq. to Captain but according to tradition wears the rank of a Lt. In case of not being promoted on the 6th year to the rank of SP, an ASP wears rank of Captain. Moreover, if An ASP is sent on deputation to FC, he wears the ranks of a Captain i.e 3 Stars.

Additional IG, AIG and SSP are appointments

IG, DIG, SP and ASP are ranks.

DSP are from the provincial cadre and are junior to ASP as an ASP will get promoted to the rank of SP within 6 years while a DSP will get promoted to rank of SP after 10 years ( that is what has happened to direct DSPs of 1988 batch)

Regards,

AMK
