I would like to add that you can just read Dawn Page #08 and 09 in ab initio. These two pages include 3 editorials, 4 columns and letters to the editor. Read all 3 editorials, 2, 3 or even 4 columns and just relevant and specific letters to the editors. You can keep this routine for 15 to 20 days. Within that time, you will feel less obstruction and trouble while reading the Dawn. After that, you should add 2, 3 pages of International section, and so on. Keep in mind that reading Dawn or any other good English newspaper is necessary especially for Competitive Exams. But, don't take so much pains if you are unable to read it at one sitting in the beginning. If you just read Editorials and Columns and note down important points in the register on the daily basis, eve this small portion can fulfill a lot of needs for attempting papers of Essay, Current Affairs and so on.

@ Maria the Chemist
The three topics in a sequence on page 8 are called Editorials. They reflect the policy of the Paper and the editor puts the views on the topics with some analysis and questions or suggestions related to a hot topic. Read the three editorials to get a view: the view that you can also take side on. There are certain words on daily basis which are not clearer to you semantically, note those words, use dictionary and learning these words will pay a great to you. The four Columns are the detail notes or opinions with suggestions, questions, answers, etc. on a certain topic. Each writer writes over a single topic at a time. If you jot down important points raised in a column, it will help you a lot while attempting almost every subject's questions. And, yes read both columns and editorials.
