Turkey and the story of a failed coup?

Respected members

After much celebrations and cheering regarding the failed coup attempt in turkey. Things are back to normal. But i want to know why the coup attempt failed? keeping in mind the history of turkey in regard to military takeovers?

Was it due to economic stability? or was it the leadership ability? or was it due to some other reason?

(Keep in mind back in 2013 the same Erdogan when he was PM, there were a number of strikes against his policies :) )

Kindly if any member can outline what might be the reason why armed forces couldn't do it this time ?

(Not a martial supporter, just want to know the logical reason)
Thank you in advance :)

The basic reason was power of masses and that the people of Turkey learned from experiences of last 4 coups...

In my view, there are three reasons of coup failure. firstly, people of turkey felt increase in their living standards mainly due to policies of Erdogan. Secondly, last four successful coup developed the feeling in their minds that military rule is no option, their lives are not improving only by secularizing the nation as military Generals believed and turkey can only prevail through enfranchising the people. thirdly, Erdogan revived the economy to great extent and put its traditional economic strength of tourism on its feet.

Those attempting coup had taken conventional media in control. Erdogan's call to the masses to come out into streets reached them through social media. Social media definitely helped in propagating Erdogan's message. Why they came out and put their lives on risk had reasons too. People of Turkey are already weary of military rule as they have already experienced the 3 military regimes. Now they have tasted the true spirit of democracy. Erdogan became president after winning 52 percent majority without rigging the election and is in a true sense the representative of people. The 52% real majority was not going to vanish in thin air. They came forward to lend Erdogen their support. Also, only a small faction inside military was attempting the coup without any chain of command. The chief was not part of it.

I would also endorse the same views.

Ever since 2003 Turkey's economy has been improving at a great rate. Annual GDP growth has been at a rate of 4% as of 2015. the unemployment rate is also at 9.3%. So overall the democratic government has brought economic boom to the country.
